5434, Academy:
Posted by Little Timmy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Having to run to Galadon -twice- to do the first two parts of the newbie quest with lowbie moves when having, say, Arkham as a hometown is a little ridiculous. Granted, wherever you are, you have to run around a little, but this is extreme. I'm not sure the academy no longer always opening to Galadon is a good idea.
Also, the cabal hallway in the Academy is outdated. Might want to look at that.

From the way you describe that, I'm not sure if the problem is your assumptions or something else. Send Valg an e-mail with the specifics of what happened and I'm sure he'll take a look.

It's on the list!

Well, I don't think it's a bug or me messing up, since I recall a short discussion about this previously. What it seems is that you can no longer go directly to Galadon from the academy if you have a different hometown, or if you have a few certain hometowns. Mine is Arkham.

5447, Do the quest in the academy

with your hometown as arkham. You will know what he means.

5469, This is fixed.

Basically, if you haven't gotten past the Galadon part of that quest, the Academy will still let you out into Galadon.
Otherwise, expecting new players to go Academy->Arkham->Galadon->Academy->Arkham->Galadon->Arkham just to deliver the first set of maps is... cruel.
In related news, there's a little extra information in one part of that quest, alerting you to a way to restock movement points during the walk-y parts that you do still have to do.

5470, As a separate point

Isn't half the point of the newbie quest to make you know where the cities lie relative to each other? You don't get that by walking straight back down from your recall into Galadon if you used recall to get to Arkham in the first place, which I have no doubt you would have if you don't like walking.
Personally, whilst resting can be a pain, I'd say it is the experienced players that would want to skip the walk, whilst for newbies it is actually teaching them something.

5471, Hrm?

You still need to walk from Galadon to Arkham. The difference is, if you do it the way the quest was originally designed, NPCs give you rough directions, a boat, a map, and possibly other pointers.
That's very different from the first NPC sending you to the Temple of the Moon and being dropped off in the middle of Arkham with no pointers on what to do next (and no boat).

5474, but do you have to walk?
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If your hometown is Arkham, what stops you just talking to the mapguy, getting a boat, and recalling to Arkham, delivering, then going down from the pit to get back to Galadon and heading off from there?

Largely, not knowing how to go from A to B in the latter stages of the quest, when you've been given directions from point C. There's lots of ways to shorten it if you're an experienced player who knows all of these things, but that quest's target audience isn't experienced players.
