53131, Soldier of the Light
Posted by SPN on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Was just perusing new shaman paths and had a question about the first skill in Seraph's wing, "Soldier of the Light."

It says in the middle: Damage that they deal is less blunted than
normal by protection from good, especially when that protection comes from a
device rather than a class ability.

I am just a bit confused on the wording of this. Do good shamans with protection from good up do less damage naturally? if that is true, is the same true of Protection from evil?

Just looking for clarification.

Protection from Good on your opponent reduces the damage that you, as a good shaman, deal to them. One of the functions of this skill is to reduce that reduction, allowing you to deal more damage than you otherwise would in this situation.

Clear?

Makes sense. Never really read it that way and turned it around. Mabey for clarification it could read something like..

"Opponents fighting the Soldier of the Light will find the benefits of 'Protection from Good' to be less beneficial, especially those provided through devices, rather than a class ability."

Or something like that.
53154, I think the wording is fine, fwiw

I'm not exactly sure how you could read it any other way...

Anyone can feel free to correct me if this is incorrect, but to me it seems to be that:

Say Protection from Good cuts damage from a good source by 33%.

Any damage from a good shaman will be reduced by this percentage.

Now, if a shaman has Soldier of the Light, that damage reduction is changed to 30% or 25% or 20%.

Kinda how I read it.. But was just confused.

Not sure how many goodie shamans run around with Prot Good up, except for very niche situations..

If you're good aligned you can never have protection from good up. It just doesn't work that way. This means if your opponent has protection from good up, it's less effective. I would think the latter comment about potion vs commune would be level based effectiveness but Daev would have to confirm.
