52943, Question on Original Content
Posted by Moligant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just wondering how much of CF is original content now. I know that's been an ongoing effort over the years and am wondering how much more to go before 100%. I had an idea a long time ago that couldn't be done due to copyright issues or something.

I thought the Diku license allowed them to customize the content to their hearts desire as long as they don't start making people 'Pay to play'

52945, The Idea (may explain what issue was)
Posted by Moligant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Back in the day I used to love reading 'Dragonlance' novels, especially the short-story anthologies. I always wished we (the interested players) could create and publish something similar based in CF but at the time it was explained that couldn't be done because too much of CF was copywritten material and you would need to have 100% original content or something like that. I was also told that getting to 100% was a long-term goal.
I figured if you wanted to advertise to a bunch of people who are tied together by an interst in fantasy fiction, why not produce your own fantasy fiction. Either a short story anthology or even maybe a comic book based in the stories we create all the time just by playing our roles. Good way to raise cash to boot. But as mentioned this idea was shot down for being impractical. Just wondering how much closer to practicality we are.

52953, Barovia, the Aryth, and Seantryn are the only glaring areas I can think of

Barovia and Strahd are from the Ravenloft books, Aryth & Seantryn the Wheel of Time.

But his version had little in common with ours other than the name.
