Which is more reliable in it's basic form? Deflect Shield or Offhand Disarm?

Which is more reliable: Offhand disarm + ambidextrous disarmer or Deflect shield?

Which is more reliable: Offhand disarm + ambidextrous disarmer or Deflect shield + Painful Deflection.

I have never seen deflect shield ever used so I'm curious if offhand is a better choice in general or ever.

And finally, does offhand disarm use your offhand weapon if you are dual wielding?

Generally speaking, if you want to get a shield out of someone's hands, deflect shield is better across the board. It is pretty rare that someone with 100% deflect shield will try it and miss entirely. With painful deflection it's possible to have a 0% miss chance in most circumstances.

The tricky thing to consider is that deflect shield is sort of shield cleave and offhand disarm in one skill. If you don't miss, it works something like this:

- Damage the shield if it can be damaged. Some materials are easier to damage than others. I hope you didn't pick a glass shield.
- If the shield has sustained enough damage, break it.
- Otherwise, it might be knocked down (like offhand disarm).

A number of factors are involved, but for a shield that isn't cursed but is hard or impossible to damage, you might be better off with offhand than deflect -- although if so, not by a lot.

It keys off your main hand, but gets a bonus if dual wielding.

...I'd be really confused if offhand disarm worked better for removing shields than deflect shield. That'd be like hook working worse than disarm - does not compute.

Deflect shield you'll see plenty of if you ever roll a shield spec paladin. Outside of a handful of scenarios (goodie conjie with archon, shield spec paladin, decked shaman) you're just not going to see it used very often.
