50694, Info on Lloth CF lore
Posted by colospgsbryan on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'm just curious at what age Lloth was an Imm (of shadow?) and what happened to her IC? What brought about her absence? Was she killed off, in hiding?

I swear I didn't start this topic about myself, but since you asked...
At the end of the first age, my previous Shadow Imm Khargqwzxdds decided even though he could spell his name correctly, actually hated it anyway and needed a more memorable character to lure in the followers.
Then-Imp Shadarharan suggested I take a look at the Dark Elf Trilogy by R. A. Salvatore to get some ideas, and I really got into that series, stealing the whole Lloth persona in the process. I guess that was around 1993? Well, Lloth endured for about 6 years, between other minor imm incarnations. Then I got into a tiff with Pico over something which I can't remember now and deleted in a huff around 1999.
It's funny how petty little things can make a person emotional in a game like this, but I guess that's what keeps us coming back.
Anyway, I tried coming back 3 more times after that as various heroimms, but I think after 15-20 years of playing, I just didn't have the creativity or dedication to really invest anymore. I still like playing every now and then though, and hope CF stays alive long after I'm gone.
Well, you asked :)

While Lloth was slain by Pico in her attempt to draw too much power as a goddess, the dead deity still holds an isolated following in the Underdark and other dark-elven communities where her symbol, the black widow, is still revered. Since it has been over a century since any well-known priest or priestess has exhibited control of powers granted by Lloth, her priestesses generally only hold power within dark-elven houses and nobility. As a result, most dark-elves who come to the surface choose to worship visible deities that seem to provide more tangible rewards.
