Was thinking about taking Calming with a warrior I am working on. I like preps that have neg side effects and figured it would be a help with these but was unsure as to the real usefulness of the Legacy. Have either of you ever taken this Leg with one of your morts? What were/are your thoughts on it?

Thanks for any info.

Having had it, I believe it does help against nasty effects from preps.

However, there's a limit to what it can do, so don't expect to ignore them.

Against pcs though you can pretty much not worry about them messing you up enough to kill you if your saves are decent. There's offensive mileage to this too because you won't have to break off nearly as early when fighting that shaman, say. You can chase that commuter into nastier territory knowing they probably can't curse you, including pally wrath curse.

I'd definitely consider taking it on the next warrior I played.

50724, I took the legacy on an imperial drow
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was able to fight invokers toe to toe with no preps at all and win most of the fights. I think they managed to do better than an **DEMO** like one time with their big spells. Muters could neuro me but they couldn't land any debuffs and their disrupts were mostly mangles. The big bonus as an imperial is that it made me almost impossible to summon for all of the fort shaman/paladins trying to gank me outside the palace and also made me always save vs wrath making it a non issue in terms of damage as well.

Calming is a really good legacy, and if I could somehow pick a legacy on my non-warrior characters it's the one I'd pick probably 80% of the time across the board.

As a warrior, it's an excellent solution to a problem that *usually* is not the biggest or second-biggest problem I expect that character to have. If you have problems with any of the classes that tend to care whether or not you miss saves (invoker, shaman, necro, a-p, transmuter, druid, devil-centric conjurer, etc.) I think this legacy is a huge help, especially since it's subtle enough that most people will write off your streak of saves as luck.

50730, Question
Posted by TJHuron on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The legacy description on Dio's says this legacy is a permanent -20 v spells.

My question is does that adequately describe the legacy or does it do more? It sounds like there is a bit more to it. For instance, if I wore gear that gave me -20 v spell would my benefit be the same as not wearing the gear and having the legacy?

You don't get saves from the legacy.

In general terms the legacy just makes anything that involves a save vs spell check much more likely to suceed in your favor.

I believe the actual mechanics of how this is done are twofold.
1.) You get an extra chance in the save vs spell check to suceed in the save.
2.) The casting level of spells used against you is lowered

So part 1 helps against many spells and communes whereas part 2 just helps against spells (including some that might constitution checks instead of SvS checks like plague).

The amount of protection you get from point 1 is enhanced/detracted by the same stuff that normally affects saves (SvS, int, wis, level difference).

As a drow with divine saves I felt better protected then a villager with spellbane up to give you a point of reference to something more people are familiar with.

This was never correct.
