50131, Naming Policy
Posted by Splntrd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
In the past, we've decided some names that are technically rule-breaking could actually still be good names if they were role appropriate. The most notable example being englishy sounding human names.

I picked a name like that recently - thinking it would theme well with my role - and was asked to change it within ten minutes of logging on. No complaints about that - it's technically a rule-breaking name - kudos to the heroimm running enforcement for being on the ball. But - can we standardize our exceptions process somehow? Maybe give the more gray-area-type names 6 levels to enter a role or at least prove they're not abusive characters?
50133, Seconded.

Most of my characters have questionable names, but I seem to get a pass because they're cool.

I think everyone should have that opportunity.

Dastmalchi Hamid (named after pro poker player Hamid Dastmalchi)
Landser Lunikoff (named after a notorious white power band)
Macaca Oxtail (from a political scandal and evidently a russian word)
Homard Brokenstone (the French word for Lobster)
Mauz Komkat (named after a mouse)
Jawn Foote (named after me, Jon)

So, really, if you're going to let Macaca an Twootie slide, I think that there needs to be more of an opportunity for people to have names that might be gray-area, but fit the role.
50136, Maybe we should just ban you and all your rule breakingness nt
