49611, Good idea? What are Staff thoughts?...
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
"...Here's an idea that will probably never happen: Remove Copeham Inn. Replace it with the Eternal Star. Add that area to the Galadon area so it shows up on where. Add the Academy to the Galadon area. Now you have the Academy, Inn, and Galadon in the same where. Instant community between the places newbies start and most often go and helpful people.

Rambling thoughts.

- Paul"

Would this work out like he thinks? Opinions?

...But I like Copeham Inn.

I mean, it could use a bit of sprucing, but the area is a cozy one.
49629, Not totally oppose to this Idea...

I am not totally opposed to this idea. But it will mix Tribunal with Herald. I would suggest leaving Eternal Inn where they are or even move them back to their old position to be accessed easily by all.

Copeham Inn can be made an extension of the Eternal Inn with few mobs helping newbies with quests. Mini Lyceum may help with reading for newbies as well.
49624, Problems with this....
Posted by Amaranthe on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Some problems that come to mind:

- Herald powers like taletell and perform are area-wide, and would create spam in Galadon

- Galadon fights would create fight spam during Herald events

- Both of these extend to the Academy, creating a confusing feed of spam for newbies trying to navigate the Academy for the first time.

- the geometry of this arrangement would be very nonsensical, especially with the Lyceum. Not that Thera's geometry always makes sense, but this case would be particularly odd, I think, and would at the very least require extensive description work.

While none of these problems are insurmountable, they are a lot of work. Of the improvements I'd like to see made to Herald, there are quite a few I'd place higher on the priority list that would be less work, and even those suggestions are usually low-priority.

Also an IC problem that I don't see a way around, is that this would squarely place the Eternal Star as part of civilization. Right now, there's enough wiggle room to warrant Outlander RP involvement at the Eternal Star, if they so wish. Making the Eternal Star be physically in the city limits of Galadon would kill that.

49623, I would like to see SOMETHING like this.

Galadon doesn't need any overhaul, because changing Galadon will screw us in terms of some semblance to stock muds.

What Galadon needs is some help, this seems like the right idea.

Should supplement with the Arena stuff being more active. I know there are echoes when fights go on, but that Arena needs to be a part of Galadon too.

Galadon is the major city of the game and there are times where I'm the only one in it...got to get back to the days where auction 'snow worm leggings for sale' got tells.
49620, I think that the Inn is fine where it is now.

Galadon is sort of restless neighbourhood. Tribunal also has a cabal headquarters there. You can do a lot with good signposts where newbies are concerned. You could combine some roads as larger areas north of Galadon if you wanted to. That would ease chasing and give more power to summon. Is that a desired result?

While I think the number of areas needs to be downsized/combined,
I'm not sure I'd enjoy being a Trib forced to listen in on storytelling
because the Inn and Galadon are in the same zone. Plenty of people
actively choose not to involve themselves in that part of the game by
not going to the Inn. This would mean you'd have to avoid an entire
city.

Outside of that, what the hell, why not?
49618, It's more than sufficient.

Putting the Inn where Copeham is solves several problems including the removal of Copeham, just don't zone the Inn as part of Galadon. The Lyceum can still fit back there and Herald isn't part of the cabal wars enough to make having it in the same city as Tribunal a problem. Inn already has it's own bouncers, and being booted out of the Inn into Galadon for fighting presents it's own problems for being caught and PK'd. It's a win all around except for Tribunal grumbling about how many more bar brawls they have to look into that spill out onto Trade Road.
49619, Why not just make Copeham a newbie tutorial area?
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Add some mobs that talk to newbies, put in a library with stuff (ala the Lyceum) that are basically newbie FAQ's and guides. Throw a mob or two in there that, when walked by someone who chooses "yes" to newbie question, say stuff like "You might wanna see Sutton in dat Aldevarri forest yah?" or "Heard that there Keiiah needs some work done, yer up fer it?" or shiz like that.

I always loved the Copeham for a couple reasons (great place to hide when #### goes down in Galadon if you're smart) but it really does seem somewhat anachronistic.

Edited to add: You could even throw in some bouncers in a four-room part of the area that would attack anyone who starts a fight ala Eternal Star (so newbies don't get slaughtered past level 11 there).
49616, Every event is interrupted.

With calls of HOW I MINE FOR FISH???

Still, better than the alternative. Do eet.
49614, That would make Galadon similar to when I started. Crowded. It would be intense! (nt)
