49404, Tattoo outside of sphere..
Posted by Pious on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Hi.
General question for the IMMs. I know you guys don't empower outside your spheres, but what about ink/being a follower if the role fits?
Is this a case by case thing?
Thanks! Game is still cool after all these years :)

I've done it one or two times with Rayihn. Never with Baer, she's sphere purity.

I think it's rare, and most people don't take a religious path that they didn't plan on at the start of their char when they selected a sphere, so maybe it does not come up too often. Generaly, a player goes out of their way to find an imm more than imms going about trying to pull characters into their faith, and if a player intends on following an Imm (as an empoweree or not) they probably picked a sphere in the faith.
That said, out of sphere can work, but usually it's going to be on the Imm's terms and be far more an exception than a rule. I wouldn't make it about getting the tattoo as that's pretty rare even for religious chars.
I got one tattoo on a out of sphere char, but my char was also very old and had a role swing during the char's life that the Imm helped me out with a lot. My char was a follower of hers without knowing it in essence, and it all came together really just out of one random interaction.

And yes, case by case.
It's happened before. I've never done it, but in theory, I would.
And then there was, say, Kastellyn, who very specifically had a religion that was distinct from the empowerment/sphere thing.

Really? I'm pretty sure his tattoo doesn't function at all if you're not one of his spheres.

as I seem to recall him telling me that when I played Iborenn.

Ditto for Vershelt.

Maybe it didn't function, but he explained to me that he would grant his tattoo to any character who proved themselves to be a "legend" if they didn't follow another god, regardless of sphere.
Whether he actually ever did or not, I don't know.

The fact that his tattoo is made to not function for you unless you're of his sphere seems to indicate (to me) a trait one might decide is necessary if they are to tattoo outside their spheres.
Maybe not, but actually sounds like a neat idea to do.

49418, Word from the K...

I saw Kasty on Facebook so I asked him..
He verified sphere wasn't important for the tattoo - but you did have to approach him about wanting it. Sphere was for empowerment, and he verified the tattoo's functions only worked for those of one of the spheres.
The distinction was if you followed him as a god, sphere was important (tattoo powers or empowerment), but "legends" could be marked as such by his tattoo, but in that case, K wasn't really that person's *god*, just one marked by him as a legend.
Incidentally I have a few spheres I would consider tattooing aside from my three, and my tattoo's powers are linked to sphere, too.
