Among game mechanics things one might one to test, this is one of the more testable ones.

Rank a spear/staff guy to whatever level they get spin at. Fight a mob (or mobs) at full dex for a while and log it. Reduce your dex through gear and repeat. Parse the log and calculate the rate at which spin fired for each. AFAIK spin fires before parry and dodge, so you don't need to account for that in your analysis.

Potential problem is that the most straightforward gear for reducing dex also reduces strength, and spin might key off strength instead of (or in addition to) dex. Would just have to look harder and find some gear that *only* affects dex.

And the answer was yes, spin is a dex-based skill. This also makes sense from a logic standpoint, since you're trying to deflect incoming weapons by spinning a long shaft in your hands. Try it sometime IRL. It's not that easy to do and requires a fair bit of dexterity just to spin the thing without dropping it.
49263, I don't know....

But it wouldn't be to hard to rank up and arial warrior to about 5 w a practice staff the do the same with a dwarf and see if there seems to be a difference between the two as far as spin firing goes. I've used staff on low level giants and it didn't feel like they spinned much.
49262, Good question.

Sure felt like my dex human tanked better than my storm giant, but people swear up and down to me that dex affects spin.

Could have just been the better dodge though I guess.
