Can some one explain the dynamics of shove to me, I've tried using it in various scenarios where I feel like it should work, with no joy. I always get the return 'The foe is to smart for that' or some such, and no lag on the command.

Shove is tricky to use syntax wise, and I have seen some bugginess with it.

Having said that it can be used effectively and with some modicum of success.

You have to aim at a mob who is hitting you and merely type the command <shove player> that you want to shove into the mob.

This in turn will essentially force that player to rescue you, taking all the hits from the mob and aiming at the mob.

I've found it most useful against druids/outlanders. Scions and conjies have a binding thing with their servitors that makes it impossible to shove. You can also shove people into cabal outers, which can be useful in a raid situation.

I honestly don't think I've ever gotten around to playing an Imperial Blade, but I have had it used against me a number of times. Typically, when I see it in use, the Blade is shoving a mob that's attacking them in front of a PC that's attacking them and you're aiming at. Typically, I ONLY see it used in PK situations, but as I said, that's just because I only run into it when it's used against me.

So...as an example, random mob and PKGuy are attacking Blade, Blade needs to (I think?) be aiming at PKGuy, and then shove mob.

I know it's not much, but hopefully it gives you some help.
48825, You can not shove Mobs

And if its only in a situation where you are fighting a mob, and then the other guy jumps you, and you shove him into the mob, thats a pretty worthless power.

There are several uses for shove.

Shove the druid into his treant. Or any neutral/goodie outlander into the annoying beastcall.

It's a great skill and I rarely ever have had an imperial.
48827, I thought last time I used it

I was able to shove players into each other, I take it thats just not possible any more? *that was 10 years ago or so*
48829, So they really should update the helpfile

The circumstances you need to be in play in order for shove to work are...

1.) You are directly fighting a mob
2.) That mob is not a conjurer servitor/Nightwalker
3.) The person you are trying to shove is a PC

So you can't shove mobs just standing around into people and you can't shove people into people.

The situations where it shines are...

Fighting a cabal guardian and shoving the defenders against them.
Fighting a druid/necromancer and shoving them into their minions (effectively neutralizing their army one at a time if you need to)
Anywhere with lots of autoassisting mobs (for instance find a room on kiadana with a lone storm, shove into them, flee and let the fight resume and when the mob tracks it re-engages your enemy and potentially brings a whole lot more into combat)

Ohh and shoving paladins wielding defiance and bal'talon into low level goodie mobs... priceless. If you time it right (bring the mob in with like a dirt kick then hit mob;shove enemy you can make them one round them)

"So you can't shove mobs just standing around into people and you can't shove people into people."

I wonder why we though it would be overpowered to allow either of these things. The way it works now seems very counterintuitive.

If you could shove mobs standing around into people, then I can almost guarantee that you could never raid Empire successfully against a blade if they can get someone to summon anything to them. There's a ton of nasty cutoff/bash happy mobs that can be summoned. If I can shove them directly into the fight with someone it would be brutally overpowered.

Shoving people into people would be a really nice skill as well. Effectively neutralizing any attempt to gank.

48835, it would be so OP

Unless they did something to drastically affect the success rate then people able to shove people into people would make shove the single most OP ability in the game.

Especially combined with blind/lag/your own groupmates you would just decimate any group.
48837, Seriously.

Ten years ago when I came to CF, I came from a clone mud which had shove.. Only it worked on everyone. Playing that games version of an AP: you could ride into combat on your dragon, blind your opponent, dismount and shove your dragon into tanking position. Bashing could dismount an enemy if you were big enough too, so you could run into a fight with a mounted enemy, knock them off and then make them fight their own mount (probably a dragon).

It was hilarious but way too powerful.
48845, Shove used to be different, so I don't think...

...you can say it was so OP.

Log of shove working against Nightwalkers (which doesn't happen now anymore):

I also could have swore you USED to be able to shove people into people. Searching for those logs suck though. Got to know what you're looking for.
48833, That's a pretty awesome power
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I used to think it could only be done to people who trusted you, basically just reverse rescue. If you can force guys who jump you while you're ranking to take the hits from the mob you're ranking off that really changes the situation.

48823, I'd answer but I'm in the same boat you are, I had no idea how to use shove and it never worked when I thought it should. n/t
