48728, Please act similar to other villagers too.
Posted by Kuchulmuchul on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
At rank 16 I couldn't find any mage to hunt for about 2 real hours. I thought OK, I will help that young gnome shifter and kill him, and I did. As soon as I could harm him, another gnome shifter told us that he wants to join. I accepted the other and then ran to Mausoleum, closed the door and killed both. At rank 33 an immortal uninducted me because I acted like betrayers and backstabbed mages. She actually RPed it very well which was fun, and asked me to kill 10 more mages to clear the case. I deleted the char because it was very hard to do so with a rank 33 gnome/warrior, for me who can't kill 10 mages even with village powers, but I would have tried to do it if I was before rank 20.
I don't think that it's a good way to get the mage kill and if an immortal gets angry and uninduct you for your actions is totally fine to me (I would have uninduct such applicant if I was an in control Immortal).
The point for writing this post is: Please act same to all such applicants? My mages have been killed numerous times with such methods, I think at least 10 times, 3 of which were killed with the exact same method. I saw most of the applicants doing so, becoming villagers very soon (So no one punished them) and Even two of them got leadership later in life. Probably the Immortals have not seen their actions? It's understandable. Just please try to punish other applicants trying to do such things from now on?

48800, In my opinion

The worst part about the whole thing is the fact that the ones you did that too were gnomes also. Now, everyone may have a different feel on what is and isn't acceptable as far as kinslaying/betrayal; but to me, the gnomes seem like one of those races that pretty much try not to kill eachother. Especially right out of the Academy.
Again, I'm not judging too much as I don't know what your role was, nor did I ever interract with Kuch, but as an outside observer the thing that jumped out at me was a gnome betraying other gnomes.
I will also say that I am probably offender number one at telling mages, sure I'll group with you, and then bashing their faces in. But I also generally play characters that skew deceptive and evil in the village. During all of that, I've never ranked with one or really aided them in any way. I've probably been in a group with some of them, but only as long as it takes me to walk them out of a city, or to said trap.

I can say unequivocally that any other warrior applicant who I found doing this would get the same treatment. Had you been evil stealth class, then MAYBE you might have been able to slither out. The fact that you actually gained a rank with said mage just put you over the edge. Was 10 MPKs a herculean task? I don't think so, difficult yes, but not impossible. Had you done it I would have inducted you myself.
I have hauled up applicants who have done shady things to get their MPK before and will do in the future if I see it. I booted one warrior after he was in the high 30s and inducted one time for stuff he did as an applicant. So don't feel singled out.

If Kuchul was younger I would have tried to kill 10 mages. But at rank 33 it was VERY hard for ME. I've seen some others who do it as quaffing a glass of water, but it was too much for me.

To corroborate that, I'm not aware of this ever happening and that person not paying for it in some serious way.

48784, I believe you.

But as I said, a warrior joined my shifter and after some learning he backstabbed the mage! I do know that he's not been found out, and I didn't report it as I thought it's OOC. But he got applicant with the PK and later on his life, he got leadership too.

48741, Immortal & mortal leaders are not ever present and watc...

Generally most take the view that unless they see it for themselves, they won't act on it. Imms have a bit more ability to snoop and such compared to mortal leaders of course, but they only act upon things that they actually witness most of the time.
Sorry that you feel your char got slighted in some way, sometimes you happen to have an Imm's attention when you don't know it and get in trouble for questionable acts.
That practice you engaged in has been going on long as I recall, and most mortal and immortal leaders are less than impressed by that tactic. There is also this aspect which I'm not sure played out in your case. You don't group with the mage. You don't aid him in any way. If you offer to train with him, it's only to get him to get close to you. You attack him instantly when he arrives, you might get away with it. But if they follow you, join your group, you kill a few mobs so that he comes into PK range, and then attack him, that's a lot worse, at least in my eyes, because you were deceitful about your Battlerager intentions. Which is what I think the Imm may have been driving towards, you should be proud to be a rager or seek to become one and wear that mark freely and openly. Even an evil sphere deception thief rager probably wouldn't aid a mage in return for a chance to kill him.
Think of the quest offered in a different fashion, not as punishment, but as training. If you said you can't reliably kill mages, or find them, well, this quest was an opportunity to help expand your abilities in those areas. Yeah, you may have died a lot and never finished, but it may have still been a good learning experience. I get the frustration you might have had from it, but it's when a rager (and really any char) confronts and overcomes adversity that they become truly noteworthy, at least in my eyes. Just something to keep in mind if you have another obstacle with a future char some time.

I agree with what you said mostly.
1. I did help the mage to get in my PK. It is very close to the worst, and I don't think that an immortal should easily forget it. But as I said, I've had two exactly same experiences before as mage part, and one even worse! (The warrior was in my pk range. We got out learning. After killing a few, I was wounded. Slowed to rest and the warrior attacked. This very same warrior got leadership later, as the commander of battle.)
2. At first I decided to use the chance and learn PK more, but well.. unwanted frustration didn't let me, and I couldn't change my feeling.
3. Again, I don't blame the Imm for punishing me IC, actually I do appreciate her RIGHT response. I just ask them to think of a way to find out similar situations, and punish them all. I'm not sure if they have a log (temporary or mandatory of any kind, at least for PKs), but if they have, they can just check PKs for those who say the words in front of Tahren, and become applicants.

Maybe that guy just got lucky that no Imm saw him. You can't let that get to you though. Different Imms take different stances, just as mortals, and maybe the Imm that punished you wasn't there to see that one.
You tend to play a lot of fun characters, and you bring a good attitude to the game with pretty much all of them, even when you get PK'd you always got right back up there and kept on rolling along. Try and keep that and enjoy your characters by playing them how you want, and don't worry about what others are doing with theirs or how others are treated in comparison to yours. Not all things will be equal, it's a bit much to ask of the limited resources of the Imm staff that it would be so all the time. So you just have to get up and dust yourself off and try something new.
Anyway, I'll just leave it at I hope to bump into another char of yours again some day in the fields. :)

Being evil probably would have helped your cause. And possibly sphere deception.

A gnome with sphere wisdom who knows how magic will ruin Thera and seeks to destroy it in every possible way he could, shouldn't be much different.

48748, You do understand how a group founded and united by betrayal wouldn't like betrayers
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Its not acceptable to do it as a villager regardless of align. It ties back into the founding of the village story.
Deception is fine.
Betrayal is not.

48756, Quite right.

Not to mention the fact that grouping with a mage as a Villager would get you the boot, so why should it be any different as an applicant?

48763, Again, I agree with what you two said.
Posted by xrus on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I just was hoping it to happen for everyone, as I had some first handed experience with worse situations, and some of them even got leadership!
I don't say that Imms play unfair, I just say that it's good if they can think about a semi automated system to catch most of the same situations, as you can't expect them be able to see all the occurrences themselves.
