48642, Thief: Train for points?
Posted by The Heretic on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you can use 1 train for 1 thief point, would you? Would this be a fair trade?

Some builds would become incredibly difficult to deal with while others would barely benefit.
We all saw what extra thief points turned Flaaaaaaaaaayin (or whatever) into. But I honestly believe that even with twenty or more extra skill points, Otuerghad's built would have kept him ineffective and rather weak.

49857, QUESTION FOR IMMS: Thief: Train for points?
Posted by vorian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
On jan 26 2013, The Heretic brought up this idea wich was positively received by players.
No Immortals responsed to the thread and i wonder what they (& Implementors) think about it?

I don't think it's a good idea at this time.

48658, Variation: thief skills cost trains

If you could do the reverse, how many thief points would you use? In other words, if thieves just got tons of trains and thief skills only cost trains, how would you build your thief?

48664, VERY interesting... I think...

... gnome thief... dodge/parry/shieldblock/arcane lore/acrobatics and then just loads and loads of trains for insane HP.
One mean tanking machine. Well, perhaps not... But it would be kinda funny.

48666, Yea, if the thief point system were meant to run on trains...
Posted by Tac on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It already would. Having decreased cost for DV for high wis does make some sense though and would be a boon to gnome thieves (the sorriest excuse for thieves). Give me halflings/hobbits already! My first character was Bilbobaggins the gnome thief for goodness sake, haven't I waited decades enough?

48667, Wasn't meant as a suggestion

Thieves getting trains instead of thief points would be bad. It was just a thought experiment. Another way of looking at it: If you could drop skills for 20-50 max hp a pop, what skills would you keep on a given class?

48653, Great idea, wouldn't be OP in any way I can think of.
Posted by Amberion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
And it makes sense for gnomes who are extra wise. + makes gnome thieves looking somewhat better. :)

Depends on the build. If I tallied everything up and had one extra point, absolutely. One extra is almost useless. Two is another skill.
If I was a gnome, I might spring for 2-3 and pick up a whole two extra skill, or one that costs 4. Which, I think is fitting - I'm so wise I know extra stuff.

I would probably do it in the case where I end up with one point or something that I can't use by its lonesome self.

Depends on the build. But, quite possibly.

48646, I might be tempted, and it would give gnome thief something to use. I like. (N/t)
