48422, Overhead
Posted by TJHuron on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
What factors in to how much damage overhead does? If I were to guess I'd say size and strength are the two main factors on overhead damage. Is this true or do they just effect success?
Im really curious to know if overhead generally does more damage then pincer even if both pincers land?

48451, What I'm really asking is
Posted by TJHuron on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
In what ways is Overhead better than Pincer? Or is it even better in anyway?
Logically, I have to think it would do more damage. I think both are 3 round lag skills but people go with pincer instead for the lagging ability. But, does it really do more damage? Does one OBLIT, or whatever it does, do more damage then the DEVA + MANGLE (or whatever) that pincer does?
Or is it really as simple as a straight up dam comparison? Maybe overhead checks on size and strength so a giant would get more damage out of it then pincer but a human would not.

48452, in a very narrow set of circumstances it is

circumstance 1 You are an enlarged giant with the trapping legacy a 50 pound axe and you are using it against a sleeping gnome sized target.
circumstance 2 You can only wield one axe for whatever reason and have the overhead edge and want to try and use it as an opening lag move (for instance against an invoker with shield of ice up)
If it lands I suspect its average damage is not all that far off from the average damage of pincer (keep in mind pincer partially hits a lot to bring that average down from what you get from a full hit). It also has a pretty high miss rate and only can achieve lag occasionaly with an edge.
End of the day, if you are practicing overhead as something that can gain limited value out of it (aka a giant) then likly you would be better off using the practice sessions on something else.

48425, That's true of everything.

All attacks get a bonus to resting targets, and a bigger bonus to sleeping targets. Even a regular melee attack, you'll see much more damage than normal if the target is asleep.

48507, So Nineteen Ninety Eight, *lightbulb* push

that thug skill no one uses...
If you only push/backstab for an extra 100=150hp guyz
I think resting targets are affected by cranial/blackjack easier.
