47813, This months role contest... Clarification?
Posted by Perpetual_Noob on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Ladies & Gents,

Can one please clarify if I am reading the role contest correctly? It seems that the role contest wants you to put in how you are "forging/shaping" the world.
Am I reading too much into this and thinking that it seems more like more of a create a character contest than a judgement of someone's role?

P.S. Here is another example of someone who puts his dialect/accent in his written word. Even though haters gots-tah hate, quit hating.

This is the second note which can basically be seen as a call to roll a specific kind of character.

#### EVERYTHING about that.
47819, Can you elaborate on that more constructively, please? n/t

47822, My first problem with it, is that it's an OOC/Player oriented approach.

Haphellna's call for a felar shapeshifter is my main grievance. The fact that they were given something in the first place that might motivate them to write that note is disturbing. However, what gets me is that they're offering a free induction on a first come first serve basis. To a cabal with extremely limited membership.

If the Imms want to push people to play certain kinds of roles, I'm cool with that I guess. I just don't want to see limited cabal spaces given to the first person who can level to a specified point.

If this is something that is going to happen more and more, can we limit it to the cabals that openly induct and need the pledges?

Can I paste the text of the note here? It was sent to All, but I'm not quite sure what the protocol on IC notes on the forums.

47824, I understand Scion just fine.

I also understand that I watched a half dozen felar shapeshifters on WHO NEWBIE after the note was posted.

Maybe they don't understand what they're getting into.

47837, I was very uncomfortable with that note
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It read as an ooc "if you roll a felar shifter I'll induct you because I need a felar shifter". Really horrible even if the plan is to immediately kill or uninduct.

Not sure how it is better than a felar posting "I can't see camo or hidden and I want to use pack sense so free inducts to the first felar ranger and assassin or thief".

I think you are reading too much into this. The imms take turns holding role contests. Each imm can and does put different criteria on what types of roles will be judged favorably. In this case, Thror is looking for something specific in the roles he reads.

When I'm slated to run my contest next August, I'll give you a heads-up that your ten role chapter backstory, no matter how well-written, is probably not going to win. I prefer roles to be clear and concise.

If that doesn't suit your writing style, then you've got another chance the following month with an imm who looks favorably on reading novellas. :-)

I interpret that as him just giving the role contest announcement some
Thror-esque flair. But then again, what do I know? I'm just some guy...

Edited to add.

47815, Role contests often have themes
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
This ones theme seems to be characters that have major impact on Thera either in the past, present or future.

So.. if your role doesn't mention how that is the case, then you probably won't win.

DING! DING! DING! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

We don't have to run role contests.

Those of you griping about the criteria, please refrain from entering.

On another note, if you're pissed about my in game notes you should get a load of my business emails!

Those of you that are participating - Good Luck!
