There seems to be some confusion on dio's re: this edge. Can someone on the immstaff clarify if there is an immexp requirement or some other clandestine prerequisite for the edge?
47770, there is an immexp requirement (n/t)

I vote that imm exp be removed as a requirement from edges (preferably everything). I propose this because in practice imm exp is not a measure if the quality of a character but only a function of how many role entries they make. While this is likely a bonus to a significant numbe if pkayers(they play like poo but write lots if role chapters) it does adversely affect a number if players who when faced with the decision to allocate their limited time to CF between playing vs writing about playing and always decide to play instead of write.

From a mechanics stand point should a hypothetical 300 hour 1 role entry leader char have less access to things then a 50 hour char that has entered 4 role entries

This would be a more compelling argument if role entries were the only source of immxp.
47773, Technically true, but in practice?

The last 3 characters with PBFs had the following Imm Exp:

Zameida: 2700 from role, 1250 from "other" (all of which came after 430 hours).

Luminave: 1700 from role, nothing else.

Drogdenbaryd: 1700 from role, nothing else.

I would wager that it's a similar trend if you collect more data, but I'm too lazy for that.

So you're correct that technically, role entries are not the only source of Imm exp. But in practice? For the majority of characters, they are. And even for characters they aren't, it's more of a matter of luck and being at the right place at the right time.
47774, I'll cosign this. n/t

47778, I agree, but as a half-way between...

Any chance of making imm exp requirements transparent. At least then you know if the edge/whatever you are trying to get requires imm exp so you can plan accordingly.
47782, I respectfully disagree

It's the complexity of the game that I really enjoy, including the challenge of coming up with good roles-- and documenting them in a creative way-- which in the end is probably more "transparent" than assuming the Imms can/will watch everyone and witness/reward their strong RP moments appropriately. Seriously, it really isn't that hard to write a few paragraphs over the course of several hundred hours of playtime. I've only played a few heroes thus far and have found that an edge that requires 2000 imm exp isn't really that out of reach for anyone that tries for it. In my opinion, there should be some really good (and expensive?) edges available for people who hit a very high threshold of imm exp.

The RP (and role entry) is part of the game. To reach your full potential in CF, you are supposed to be balanced in your PK, RP, role entries, and various other experience components (exploration, observation, etc.). The fun part is that if you put the time into each of these, you can theoretically do better than others who only focus on one or two dimensions of the game. Personally I prefer it this way and think people should be rewarded accordingly, even if at times it can lead to some over-powered characters, relative to others. They are few and far between and that possibility of achieving a really cool and unique rewards/edges/gear is what makes the game so fun and continually different.

I admit I personally like the creative writing part of the game, from descriptions to roles. For me, it's a big draw to CF. I may be biased, but in a text-based game that is about pleasing the Gods, it seems totally appropriate to reward good writing, although in the end I do agree it should be matched with RP actions in-game in order to really earn heavy rewards. I'm willing to trust the Immortals' judgments on who deserves these things.

Just my two cents.
47785, That's cool, but writing a role IS NOT MANDATORY.
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Seriously, I don't understand the attitude of Role = RP because in my experience that actually is not how it works out.

You shouldn't be giving anyone a mechanical advantage over another player just because someone can creatively write good. It's ####ing retarded.
47788, its not if you don't want a lot of nice edges and to enter certain area explores

despite the handful of counter examples scarab and nep can find 99 percent of people get way more then half of their imm exp from role updates
