47293, A thought on the evil race/class skew
Posted by Calion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So from a purely mechanical standpoint the mud skews quite strongly evil, we have:
- 2½ good races (elf, storm, dwarf) vs. 4½ evil races (drow, fire, duergar, orc, mino) - 1 good class (paladin) vs. 3 evil classes (necro, ap, berserker)
When you split clerics into healers, shamans and druids, you decided druids would be strictly neutral. But must this be set in stone? It seems to me the basic goodie outlook would fit druids very well (caring for something other than themselves, i.e. nature in this case), so how about allowing druids be good aligned as well?
This would at least be a step (albeit small, due to the empowerment hurdle) towards balancing the available races/classes a bit better, whilst also offering some new char/role options to the players.
Also with this change I'd allow elves to be druids (and add a druid guild to Darsylon). Yea? Nay?

47299, No to Goodie Druids

Druids are all about one thing, Nature. And Nature is indifferent to the ideas of "Good" or "Evil."
In Dungeons & Dragons Druids had to be True Neutral, and personally, I feel like that's how it should be in CF. Nature isn't Orderly or Chaotic. It's both and neither.
I realize that there's a tendency to equate Nature-y types with warmth, goodness and love, but Druids aren't Hippies. They're people who have cast their lot in life for Nature above all other things.
As such, I can see a Druid RPing their way to goodness or evil, but think that they ought to remain a neutral class.
So, no to elf Druids.

47296, I'd agree to most, but elves for druids in general, no.

Elves that took the way of magic became high elves, elves that took the route to nature, became wood-elves.
So, elves of today are magic oriented, not nature oriented. Wood-elves the same with nature.
Ofc, it should be possible to pursuade an imm to let you play an elf goodie druid, but it shouldn't be doable as a standard.
Druid guild in Darsylon, I'd say no for the same reason.
All in all though, I'd like to see goodie druids.
