46170, Seasonal Race - Summer?

Given summer officially started last week, I'm guessing there's no summer seasonal race?
With the backlash over the auto-deletion, and GWB frustration, it doesn't particularly SURPRISE me if we don't have one, but am sad if player response ruined a new thing Scar (and others) put such effort into.

I got about half-way through coding the summer seasonal race/class combo and, well, I quit. I'm with Zulghinlour--the negativity is a real disincentive.

After alllllllll the years of CF, how can you still let a few whiny naysayers bring you down? For every one complainer, there are 10 who applaud everything you do and everything you create. I don't even play, but I think you should really get on with your project.

Though they do make a lot of noise, so it's easy to understand it getting to you... Oh well, hopefully at some point you (all imms) find the inspiration to continue adding new stuff to the game.

I'd bet they get a lot of emails saying they cheat, asking to mudsex, asking for empowerment, asking for Valg to come choose their fantasy baseball team, ask Iunna to jump out of a cake, etc, etc.
You've been around a while Mek. You know the vocal people on these forums are the ones claiming the IMMs suck, the game sucks, and I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. The people who give the Admins props are usually the quieter folk, who do it on their death thread. Meanwhile, the Gameplay board has like 20 bitch-rants in the queue at nearly all times.
I mean, ####, the negativity as well as changing work/school hours has nearly killed my CF addiction.

As long as the players with the most negativity use their voices the most, negativitiy is what you will see most on both the official and unofficial forums. I've never been an advocate for censorship. Legit complaints, informative discussion and constructive feedback can only help improve CF. Name-calling, senseless rants and whines are destructive in the game. Many imms don't tolerate it, which is why these forums are strictly moderated. Many imms just get turned off by it.
Yet many players tolerate the destructive negativity by doing nothing about it, or worse, by feeding the flames by responding to those posts. Players need to police themselves. If you want people to contribute a well-RP'ed character or a new class or great bard notes, then you need to take a stand against those whose sole pleasure is to tear down the great parts of CF with their trolls.

1) How often does an Imm tell a player they are doing well or are otherwise good for the game?
This only really comes out in PBF comments (which may or may not be communicated IC to the character in question) and aren't really a funtion of the player or in Battlefield posts which are still usually directed at a character, not the player of said character in most cases.
It does happen, but the equivalent mechanism for a player to give feedback to an IMM doesn't really exist. How do I tell someone they handled my ROTD (name related) interaction very well. Or that I think a warcry with a curse word doesn't violate the RULES as they are stated and I've never seen it interpreted that way before (Especially since regular IC communication can include curse words)?
It is a general rule of thumb that people only go out of their way to comment if they are extremely please or extremely pissed. So the fact that the majority are silent probably means things are pretty good. The Announcement board is probably a good example of people going out of their way (for the most part) to praise changes and the introduction of new stuff to the game.
I agree that we, as players, could be more positive about the game in general, but random post saying Good Job to Imms isn't as fulfilling for us or you as you might think. Either give us a way to make something akin to PBF comments directed at an immortal for good/bad etc, or just accept that the only positive you can reasonably expect is you've got a bunch of people playing this game, most of them are not vocal blowhards of negativity, people still get excited about new stuff, and the occasional "Good Job" post in Battlefield or Gameplay.

How would you recommend we deal with a slew of posts that are stupid, inane, demonstrate a lack of understand of the game, are racist or nationalist or otherwise offend? I read every post on the official forums, should we just let Pro spout his nonsense without opposition so that it appears a silent majority supports or is otherwise OK with what he is saying? That is a real question, what is the desired response to a post like any of the last dozen he has made?
I suggested implementing some sort of Digg-esque or slashdot-esque promotion system for forum posts/responses on the OT forum and got no response. If you want us to "police ourselves" how about giving a tool with which we can do so without inflaming a topic that is without merit? It isn't as if you can make a post disproving, for instance, a Pro rant without him responding and responding and responding.

I'm not so unconfident that I need people patting me on the back constantly, so don't worry about making any sycopahntic posts for me. :-)
If you want to write your opinions on your CF experiences in terms of immteraction, then feel free to do so on these forums. I'm just asking that ALL players ascribe to a constructive format in their posting:
ex: "Hey, I got ROTD'd. I'm still not sure what I did to deserve that. This is why I was doing what I was doing. If that's not cool, then what can I do to avoid getting ROTD'd again?"
If you don't want to post it on the forums, or the imm in question thinks it's better to have that discussion privately, then go along with that. If you have a problem with a given imm, then email one of the Implementors.
I'd give an example of counterproductive posting, but I think we all have a good idea as to what that looks like.

If the posts are intended to be intentionally offensive, then the forum moderators should handle that. These forums are for CF questions and discussions. Derogatory posting has no place here. The internet is a rather large system of tubes and pipes; I'm sure there are websites out there that cater to intolerance.

In reference to Pro's recent spate of complaints: I wouldn't consider any of the posts I've read to be the flavor I referred to above. I can't speak for Zulgh and Scar, but those aren't the types of posts that would turn me off from playing. There's a difference between being willfully obstinate and outright hostile. I don't see anything wrong with responding to his posts in a constructive manner, but yeah, you have to know when to stop beating your head against the wall.

It's pretty rare. (Or, it may seem that way to me because I'm an asshole and pick fights.)
But then I, personally, don't want people to tell me how great I am in general. I just want people to not be d-bags. Most of y'all do live up to that, but, you know, the people that don't do eventually take a toll no matter how thick your skin is.
It's easy for me to be in a place, emotionally, where the handful of tools don't bug me -- but that state also tends to mean apathy towards the game in general.

You made Elleryne awesome for me because you defended me when someone was flaming actually playing at mid levels (and not just powering to hero). <3 you and Baerbear. :)
I wish all the imms knew how much most of us appreciate the time they spend to make this game fun.
Its a situation where you want to ignore the assholes ( and, personally I say just temp ban them from the forums to get the point across ). And listen to those who are being reasonable, with constructive suggestions for additions to the game. We love this game. Thats why we keep coming back across the years.

I've definitely made negative posts, but I'd like to believe I've made a lot more helpful/constructive ones. I personally think you guys should be a bit more strict on people who do nothing but detract from the game with their posts. I mean, they hurt the staff, the players, and the game as a whole by driving people away, making them feel unappreciated, spreading misinfo, etc.
Also, and this is perhaps the most important thing - when a new player decides to come check out the game's official page and sees nothing but #### talking everywhere, of course they are probably going to be turned off by it. Perhaps it would be a good idea to let some newer imms, who have more tolerance for dealing with that kind of stuff, moderate the boards? I seriously am not trying to insult you or anyone else - it's completely understandable that you'd be worn down by all of it over the long years you've been here. But, a positive morale boost + advertising might just net the community some new blood.

I tend to ignore the criticisms of the foolish and instead draw motivation from them, as my efforts are vindicated by their very opposition.

Too big a deal has been made about this. It seems unwise for me to apportion what little downtime I have to a project that a significant portion of the player base has either misunderstood or simply couldn't get behind (and needed to remind me of again and again--I'm still getting e-mail about this). It's not punitive, it's not petulant, it's not a cry for pity--and I'm sorry if it came across in any of those ways--it's just no fun, so I'm going to find something else to do. In my situation, the non-masochistic of you would do the same thing; why be involved with a game project that causes more stress than it relieves?
