4579, Where's My Money?
Posted by Enbuergo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
OK, so we all know money is scarce in order to give it a value. This has been in place for a while, and although I don't agree with the 'fun' factor of constantly being short in the funds department, I realize it's here to stay.
However, I've noticed a great deal of mobs that seem like they 'should' have oodles of cash (ie certain dragons, high-level merchant characters), but don't. With merchants, I'm not exclusively referring to shoppies (although I also disagree with the way even the high level shoppies have *no* cash when you kill them), but also to random merchant mobs that seem to be dead broke even though their descriptions tout their finery and wealth. I almost want to post this on the bug board...but my question is should I pray about this, post about mobs like this here, just shut up, or what?

I sneak cash onto guys like this all the time. :) I found a couple areas where the original author basically forgot to give anyone any money, but no one noticed because they all had a million gold in the bank.
If you have specific examples in mind, email me and I'll check them against our guidelines. If the critter in question can't carry money, or isn't smart enough to know what money means, it probably won't carry any. To use your example, I'd probably put money near a dragon, but it seems odd to have a dragon carrying around several thousand coins. (I know examples exist. It's something we'll eventually rectify.) However, most sentient creatures should carry some currency, unless they are enslaved (arial prisoners), Outlander-y (some rangers and druids), or it would do them no good (Kteng).
In some cases, I'll sneak a treasure-type item onto an NPC instead of some of the cash. Those tend to be worth more, but have weight. Gotta throw a bone to the barter kiddies.
