From pbf

- Mon Mar 26 12:31:16 2012 by 'An Immortal' at level 51 (463 hrs):
An Immortal added 150 exp for: Took down an Imperial (sadass Tirrarraeor) which is par for the course, but didn't loot anything, despite having lost some nice pieces recently. Maybe nothing worth taking, but still pretty classy.

Why? Why would someone add that about Tirrarraeor, or any character? And then let that comment be published? It serves no purpose. Whether it's true or not is totally irrelevant. It's just juvenile, and comes off mean and petty.
44842, I made that comment, and I stand by it...

I've interacted with the character several times as various mortals, and I don't think he pretends to be much of anything but a punching bag. He's learning the game, and CLEARLY no match for a player like Alex.

So the comment is intended to infer that perhaps the player behind Eleagra knows full well that a guy like Tirraraeor doesn't stand a chance and has a sense of fair play and leaves his stuff.

If Tirrarraeor's player is insulted by the comment I'm sorry, it wasn't intended that way but I can see it being so. However I give that player props for hanging on to a character that many of us would have deleted out of frustration, and using that character to learn more and more about the game.

One other point - I'd call many of my own characters sadass also. The ones that fared poorly at PK, at least.

I can sort of see how someone might not pick out that you're using sadass to shorthand 'this character really doesn't have a lot of PK success and isn't a match for the kind of character who can get around 300 kills under their belt' and would think that you're cracking on Tirrarraeor's roleplay or something else, but I'm sure I've said things like that that could be misread as well and I'd probably make comments of that nature again.

I think the playerbase in general would be surprised to know JUST how many of "the great Twist"'s characters were actually sadass punching bags. It's way more than Twist would ever fess up to, and that's no small number in its own right.
44853, Actually...

I think I fess up to most any char I play now, at least anything that someone would remember. So most anything that would go to the Battlefield, I guess.

Example of something I wouldn't post about having played? The failed elf Marcatis paladin that immediately preceeded Brom whose note to apply to Tribunal actually got him told (by Marcatis, I found out later) to remove it and try again without so much pop culture reference in it.
44854, Requesting you post that note. nt

44864, I tried to find it, but...
Posted by Twist on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Since that char deleted within the first day or so of being rolled and didn't have any pk action, I don't have any logs of him.

The closest I could find was this, from a Brom log when I did a note list:

<10> Martienne: My intentions

I'll give you the gist, though (and maybe if someone else has it logged they can post it if they want - grep your logs for Martienne).

Martienne was elf paladin whose RP was going to be based on Rorschach from the Watchmen movie.

The note was essentially pretty blatant in CF-izing Rorschach's opening monologue, seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARDhJ2dpuYU.
44856, Wow, I must really suck.

Mammon have mercy on my soul for that #### up.

It's all been down hill since then.
44857, Yeah but that guy is an active character, probably reads the forums, and probably will log in again.
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think you're right that in all likelihood he won't even care either way, but what if a character saw that a random IMM called him out as sucking for all the world to see, then just decided the character and game wasn't worth investing time into?

Can't you just not make negative references to active characters on other people's PBF's instead?

I know if this had been me my thin-skinned ass would delete. =P
44862, I maybe should have just said "Sad-ass Blade #712346"...
Posted by Twist on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
...because I see what you're getting at.
44863, RE: I maybe should have just said
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
But: Couldn't someone just figure out who that is from the PK list in the PBF?

I'm not sure it's always possible to comment on a character without including some of the context of the characters around them.

Only if they look into it. Most people won't, I think.
44837, Know your audience
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The audience of the PBF wants to see things like this. Thats why they shell out the money to buy them.

That didn't seem mean or petty to me but then again the problem with text is we have a tendency to read it how we want to.

Here's part of the answer to your question:

1) If you give someone XP, you have to comment as part of it.

2) Said comments don't get editted before being published; it's unlikely they were even read first by the person who published the PBF.
