44454, The Armor Spell.

I have all ways been both obsessed with and disapointed by this spell.

It is a good spell to have at lower levels, and even has a place at higher levels when tacked onto gates of the forge. However, as we all know that's pretty much it for the spell. Even knowing this my OCD self spams it to 100% and I keep it up at all times.

I've always felt like there could be something more done to this spell to make it more interesting.

I came up with this idea and not having access to code I will try my best to illustrate my idea with my limited knowledge.

Note: I'm pressupposing that out AC system is based upon the concept of the old THACO system from D&D and AD&D. Where that was based upon 10's out system is based on 100's.

Example: The Armor spell in AD&D would be -2 to AC where as here it is -20.

In AD&D a roll of 1 was always a miss and a 20 was always a hit reguardless of "To Hit" modifiers. I suspect in CF a roll of 10 or lower is a miss reguardless of modifiers and that 200 or higher is always a hit.

As we advance characters get increases in their ability to hit based upon their class.

AD&D rules... CF Rules...
Fighter (Warrior) = +1 to hit per level +10 per level
Rogues/Clerics = +1 per 2 levels +10 per 2 levels
Mages = +1 per 3 levels +10 per 3 levels

Okay, I hope we are tracking and even if my numbers aren't entirely accurate they are close enough for a hand grenade.

So if I am correct and generally speaking a 1 (10) is always a miss then I propose that the armor spell in addition to it's -20 makes a 2 (20 or below) a miss. Basically making it a bonus %5 extra chance of a miss.

To stretch things, give it a 10% chance to stop ANY special attack where upon it is dispelled/Crumbles.

That's a lot of thought for a little spell but there you go.
44456, It's antiquated and slowly replaced as fitting.

My understanding is that it's pretty much one of the near original spells floating around that was just passed around to pretty much any class with cast. As they modified classes and updated the Armor Class system, they've slowly been replacing it with things that are more class fitting, stylish, and functional.

Necromancer - Armor of Living Bone
Invoker - Sheen of Stone
Shapeshifter - Scales/Hide/Shell/Chitin
Transmuter - Toughened Skin
Ranger - Bark Skin
Druid - Carapace

At this point, I *BELIEVE* the spell's down to mostly just conjurers, healers, shamans, and in scrolls/potions/etc, and it might not even be in all those classes. As you said, it's still a spell that gives -20AC, which has SOME place, but at this point it seems like it's been mostly phased out anyways.
44457, Rangers have it. n/t

FWIW - I use armor at lot low levels - where that -20AC seems to matter most.
44467, I covered that in my post. n/t
