4401, On a certain quest detail
Posted by Drag0nSt0rm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was blundering around when i came across a quest,
And I cannot do the quest because the Syntax is to long!
Thats to gay to be real!
14 words is to many I guess
As odd as it sounds perhaps.. there should be a way to shorten such long questy type sentances?

There is not. All quests function without exceeding CF's maximum input limit (roughly 255 characters), but other than that it is up to you. I heartily recommend investing in a pencil. I understand they are inexpensive, and useful for a host of information-recording activities.

4407, The problem is
Posted by Drag0nSt0rm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I cannot send the message to CF,
Therefor I cannot complete the quest. My problem is not that I can't scroll back, I use a client. The problem is I'm on a firewall so I have to go around it and due to the number of script kiddies using proxies you can't just go find a anon proxy anymore. I use a VMS account. I cannot send more than a certain number of characters to the VMS, something like 20.

So my question is would it be possible to allow chopping of quest sentences. Or shorty quest sentences or a way to autorepeat the sentence if possible.. I dunno, I'd just like to beable to do some quests, and explore some of the NEW areas *grumble*.
4408, This is really not a good idea.

We already allow abbreviations for non-visible (to other players)
commands, such as shortening names of targets as needed, and using
'eq' instead of 'equipment', 'sc' instead of 'score', etc. However,
abbreviating quest phrases would leech out any kind of actual
enjoyment from doing them...some would become more robotic than they
already are (and I'm not mentioning which ones). Your problem sounds
pretty unique...and I don't think the MUD as a whole would benefit
from the change you are suggesting.

4409, Once again not my point..

You say I blah blah
You say blah blah
The quest moves on

I'm talking chopping it like multipile phrases?
So you don't have to say it all at once?
I know it sounds weird but hey I'd like to enjoy some of the new areas too.

...your 20 character limit :P. I still don't like the idea, but maybe
some coder will take it into consideration. I wouldn't get your hopes
up though.

As a side note:

Your statement that I responded to, "So my question is would it be possible to allow chopping of quest sentences. Or shorty quest sentences or a way to autorepeat the sentence if possible.. I dunno, I'd just like to beable to do some quests, and explore some of the NEW areas *grumble" didn't clarify your point well enough. It
sounded more like you wanted to just cut a sentence such as "Behold,
mighty King, I bring forth Anchovies and Crusty Hippo Lips!" to
something like "Behold mighty King...". Anyway, that's where the
confusion came in.

4414, I confuse myself sometimes

Its a art.
4411, Not happening.

The way these quests (those I've personally worked on or seen, anyway), this is prohibitively expensive in terms of coder time.

If it's the quest I think it is, to do that one alone (right) would probably be well over 100 hours of work. Getting yourself set up with a less retarded connection would be much easier for all of us. :)

Cough up the dough =P
I'd love too but I don't have the twenty dollars to give to some sight for one connection I'm only going to use for one reason.
And if I did you'd rather have it than some other guy right? =P

Also not happening, but believe me, I'd do freelance or consulting work for an hour to pay for somebody's shell account a long ass time before I'd put in a ton of hours of boring and unpaid labor to rewrite how all the quests parse speech. :p

4416, Well although its a dead horse
Posted by Drag0nSt0rm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Oh I'd love to get a stable shell
But I just don't have the extra 5-15$ bones each month to throw at something like that, If I did, well I wouldn't be chilling with my girlfriend for a week cause I don't have gas to get home. =P *though that isn't terrible either...*

I'm confused. How do you access the internet? Do you log onto a VMS machine from a dumb terminal?

Do VMS accounts still exist?

I agree with Nepenthe. Upgrade to something more modern. Like OS/2.
