4397, Absent leadership
Posted by Isengrim on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Recently tried making a char again on CF, after about 80 hours and a really awful go at staying on top of things I just gave up. Lost 8 con points in 80 hours, not even counting the times I trained con and had trains to put into it. Any how my question is this, at what point do imms look at a leader characters lack of online time and take actions? I have noticed two things in my career, once a leader stops showing up the cabal itself goes dormant. Leader characters are generally and the rest of the cabal flocks to them. Ofcourse there is the obvious fresh blood thing.. absentee leader less inductions.. less people heroing.. and once the present stock dies out the cabal is left flapping in the wind for a good long time. Secondly these chars even when they do show up end up wanting to jump back into the swing of things and blow off applicants cause they want to have some fun with the char. Case in point Maran, I waited a whole month for an interview.. between Lariya, the dwarf captain (don't even know his name), and Vynmylak.. I couldnt get even get an interview. Is that just unfortunate timing or is something broke?

I hear ya! String 'em all up and get those damn folks back in line!
Seriously, I normally take a couple of factors into consideration with leader positions -- namely the contribution they make to the game through their RP/actions and visibility/playing time. Ironically, sometimes these are the same things that go away when someone is made leader, due to the demands on interviewing and induction, which can make leadership positions less appealing over the course of time. Some players know this and avoid leadership positions, others seem to thrive on it, and some bring a good balance between the leadership duties and the fun factor/playability of their character which identified their potential in the first place.
Sometimes, you'll find there are few viable candidates for leadership positions even should you want them, and you have to weigh whether the current leaders outweigh having no leaders at all.
So, is it broke? I dunno. I like having mortal leaders rather than having to perform all induction interviews myself, I know that much. Timing will always be a factor in these issues with the present induction system, and I don't foresee any automated solution that would ensure the RP enforcement required for cabal membership.
I'm open to hearing ideas. If there's a better solution out there, help us find it.
thx, Vyn

Is it even possible to uninduct/remove leadership status from a character at any time, or do you have to wait until they log in to boot them?
Mayby doing the former somehow would help. Honestly, if a leader doesn't log-in for 2 or 3 weeks without a note stating he's going on vacation, he really should have it taken from him, ala Jaegrudai.

Yes it is possible.

This was done to Jaegrudai. We just left his title alone.
