Spelunking archers just seems a contradiction in terms to me. I don't think it should be a standard choice.

43728, On a slightly similar note...

Why no high-elf animists?

43740, They can be..can't they?
Posted by Tsunami on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Wiki says they can and I'm pretty sure I have rolled one up before, but I could be misremembering...

43742, Whup, nevermind. You're right, elves can be animists
Posted by Vortex Magus on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think I misremembered that.

43789, Agreed...but...

Dark-elves can be marshdwellers too.

Dark-Elves of the Forgotten Realms Genre were originally Jungle Elves.
There was a great war and they were driven underground inorder to survive.

43792, My exact thoughts, however

hunter strikes me also as much of a frame of mind than JUST archery. The idea of a dark-elf sneaking about the underdark, watching prey for the specific moment to strike seems fitting to their mindset over a beastmaster w/ empathy towards other animals.
In your same note, humans or felar can all choose to be spelunking archers if they like. I assume archery and related skills are impossible to use underwater, why not do the same for archery?
Admittedly, I've not played ANY ranger in years, so that "downgrade" doesn't really bother me, but it seems relatively logical regarding the spelunking archers and all.

I would think of Drow patrollers except they are the ones bringing back food for Teth, ie cave beasts/lizards/fishers. A good edge may be that they are able to track/shoot at their last target using a heightened sense of hearing, or sight, when it's dark or they are blind. Something similar to that being able to navigate caves while blind thing. Meh..

43833, I did it with a half-drow
Posted by Oldril on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It was surprisingly good against mobs and god awful bad against players.
