40559, Question for IMMs (Battle or otherwise)
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So there's a vocal minority on Dio's that say bloodthirst is an automatic negation of any malediction.
I say that is untrue. I say thirst just gives a set amount of +str and +dex that is fairly high so people just think it's immune malediction.
Who is right?

40607, AFAIK, when trans slow ragers, and they thirst, they to back to hasted (n/t)

40561, I'm not positive, but...

I believe the moment you thirst, any malediction you have on you (prior to thirsting) is put "on hold" until bloodthirst wears off. That is why I (as Tavlin) would see my crimson scourge (or poison or whatever) would "wear off" of ragers when they thirsted.
However, performing any maledicts WHILE a rager is thirsted, I believe, sticks. So I would just retry a crimson scourge as Tavlin after they thirsted (and usually get spellbaned and have to flee, but worth a shot).

40568, Huh. Not that way I thought, but makes sense.

Because yeah, I've definitely dropped weapons due to strength loss during thirst.

40574, Food for thought.

If you take notice next time you play Zerker, most skills typically lose their -str buff in your affects list once battle fatigue sets in. I am not positive, but I think it is based on the type of ability that is sapping your strength more than when it occurs. I'd imagine the only person to truly answer the question is the one whom coded the ability but I, personally, would rather just know that it has some qualities that can allow you to win or die by finding out the hard way.

40577, I'm pretty sure that isn't how it goes..

I've been in situations where I've taken -str maledicts and tried to thirst to wield again with it failing...at least I think thats what you were saying wouldn't happen.

40578, Huh.

...maybe it only does certain maledicts, or a certain amount of -stat or something.

40581, its not always consistant

I think I have seen 3 flavors as it pertains to stats and maledicts.
I have thirsted without it negating anything and not giving me any plus str.
I have thirsted and got a generic like +5str and no negation of existing maledicts
I have thirsted and had all affect lines with -str expunged (as in gone when thirst wore off) and a generic like +5 str
My suspicion is that it is influenced by how strong magic is.

40586, This is correct to my understanding

With one caveat: bloodthirst gains some of its powers as you level -- they're not all part of bloodthirst when you first get it.
This is one that only fairly high-level characters have.

40606, This with Nep's caveat below.

The confusing parts to bloodthirst is (1) level dependancy, and (2) people tend to die one way or the other very soon after thirsting so it's hard to see the effect of subsequent maledicts.
One thing I really liked to do back in the day with thirst + whirlwind when fighting dex-maledict types was maledict their dex while getting my dex maledicted, and then out of nowhere spring the bloodthirst for a sudden, sustained flurry of attacks from whirlwind + bloodthirsthaste + my dex maledicts placed on hold.
