40076, Brutal Rush pros/cons
Posted by Questionable Orientation on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Brutal Rush I can 'feel' an improvement during levelling when just using it regardless of the situation but I want to quanitfy it's benefits in PK and learn when to use it and when not to. It has one round of lag and the effect seems to last roughly as long as entwine.
How similar is 'brutal rush' to orc 'crushing assault'? My guess is not at all.
Brutal rush true or false:
Reduces the number(or chance) of swings one or both opponents get, and penalizes further if either is wearing anything larger than a dagger?
Prevents fleeing. (probably not)
Restricts/penalizes skills both passive and active that require mobility (concealed, rebound, malleability, pincer, impale, spin, distance and most hunter skills, etc.)
Makes it harder to parry or dodge for one or both parties?
Is this skill worth using on warriors? Mages? Assassins? Axe specs? Sword specs? Pole specs? Spear/staff? Dagger?
Dex is important for everything about this skill. Does it mean it's not worth using for slow races (16, 18, 20 dex) against quicker ones (20, 22, 24, 25) without crippling/entangling them first?
Is it possible to penalize yourself for using this skill other than the obvious pros/cons of using a dagger or your bare hands without predator stance/unarmed defense/ironhands?
Is it overall a defensive or offensive skill? Both? Neither?

There's a (usually pretty small) chance each round that brutal rush will end, so it's unpredictable in that way.

Not all that similar.
>Brutal rush true or false: > >Reduces the number(or chance) of swings one or both opponents >get, and penalizes further if either is wearing anything >larger than a dagger?
Effectively, number of swings of anything but unarmed/dagger drop significantly.
>Prevents fleeing. (probably not)
I don't think prevents, but it might make it harder.
>Restricts/penalizes skills both passive and active that >require mobility (concealed, rebound, malleability, pincer, >impale, spin, distance and most hunter skills, etc.)
I think you can make a good argument for that, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't do these things currently. I may change this.
>Makes it harder to parry or dodge for one or both parties?
For sure yes, but I don't remember more specifically than that offhand.
That's what I can remember without digging; it's been a few years since I played a character with this skill.

Will you update the helpfile accordingly if/when this happens? I know such a tweak is going to change PK matchups involving the balance of hunter vs savage dramatically and change the balance of transmuters in and/or versus Outlander somewhat as well as the dynamics for and against Village.

40077, This is a useless skill with any amount of dexterity.

In any situation except where your opponent is almost dead and is wielding a polearm his class doesn't use and has just missed bash.
If you aren't 23+ don't bother with it.
Like so much that is ranger Strength was rejected which is a shame. Brutal rush is one of those things about rangers that left me scratching my head. To me at least it implied a skill simmilar to crushing assault and give me visions of raving barbarians, but instead it just sucks.
The skill is basically something you use when you want to give an AP an few extra charges.
