Do you have a super awesome role that took you 36 hours to write? Are you ESL and it took you three times as many hours to write this role?

We all know how busy the imms are, up there in their immortal world drinking immortal booze, making fun of all the newbs, and the occasional "coding" (as they call it).

This alcoholism and desire to laugh at my characters just because I always seem to find every death trap known to man (and then forget where it is) means that they might not have time to read your roles. I have a solution that might help just a tad bit.

Why not let the high herald read roles and dish out exp for them? After all, if a mort gets the high herald position then surely they are regarded as good RPers and I'd assume they have a great role.

If not that, why not have a committee (maybe a sect of the herald!) devoted entirely to reading roles and discussing how much experience would be allotted (in an arrpee'd way, of course).

Some people might not like the idea of allowing a mortal to read their role and apply exp to it. Maybe you could opt out and have an immortal-only role when you create -OR- you could shut your mouth and realize that the Imms were all once morts, too, and this committee of role readers could be an elite-selected bunch with their positions being appointed solely by the imms.

Being Stevers, role master extraordinaire, I could supervise all of this. I think it is safe to say that my role writing abilities surpass that of everyone else that plays (they are just so good that I'm never allowed to win a role contest).

This might go over well.

I used to play a MUD a loooooooong time ago where players could give other players a "kudos" type of reward thing to other players. Those rewards were invisible, but would play a role when that person gained a level. People (including me) abused the hell out of it because it was easy to do without getting caught.

While I appreciate Stevers' ideas for game contribution, I don't really see this one as a good idea. However, someone further down posted something I liked. Being able to comment on other characters I think is an interesting concept. Limit it to only being able to make those comments on your cabalmates and only after a certain amount of imm experience (because presumably you're doing something right after getting 3k worth of imm exp).
38476, Actually- is this a HORRIBLE idea?

To build off Stevers off the wall idea,

What if Heralds did have said power to listen to stories and allocate a marginal amount of EXP?

Say a cap of 300 exp with a timer of 100/200/300hrs?

I guess the flipside of the coin is if I'm a Scion....I'd just threaten the Herald with endless death if he/she didn't like my story the most...

I can say as an avid read of all CF forums (and rare player here lately) it doesn't sound like a HORRIBLE idea.

There's certain aspects of Herald that could have these rights- Wouldn't have to be the Storytellers only.
38477, Yes, I think it is a horrible idea (n/t)

38478, I concur.

My role is for myself and GMs. Not the High Herald. Even if you could opt out, I don't like the idea of any character knowing a bunch of people's back stories and secrets.
38481, Did you guys even read my txt?

I agreed Stevers was WAY off base, but the essence of the idea for story telling or such from Heralds isn't bad.
38482, Yes and I think it's a terrible idea. :P (n/t)

I still like my idea of having an invisible player-driven "mod" system that's visible only to higher level staff.

Create the following two commands:

bleh {player} {comment}
unbleh {player}

If you currently have a player bleh'd you can't bleh them again, but you can change the comment. You can remove a bleh at any time. 'bleh' with no arguments lists your current blehs.

Players who abuse bleh, either by over-using it or by blehing players for lame reasons, will lose access to the command and all their blehs will be removed.

The helpfile for bleh will state the valid reasons for bleh-ing someone.

Only higher level imms have access to a player's bleh information (both who he's bleh'd and those who've bleh'd him.)

No. Nobody but Nnaeshuk can be trusted to read roles. He must be the focal point for all role-related imm xp. I'm sure he won't mind.
38474, That's fine with me, I like Nnaeshuk. Nnaeshuk should be the official role reader. n/t

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but lately this is close to true. :P

Yes, was sarcastic. He mentioned once how he was the "role xp guy". I knew you guys were interested in having staff coverage during non-US hours, but I never thought you'd go so far as to send Nnaeshuk to Thailand.

38470, That is a lot of power given to a mort.

The High Herald could then proceed spread their secrets to others. Do even Heroimms get to read people's roles?

"If not that, why not have a committee (maybe a sect of the herald!) devoted entirely to reading roles and discussing how much experience would be allotted (in an arrpee'd way, of course)."

Heralda says 'I think Joe the elf should eat 500 mushrooms as a reward for his life story.'

Heraldb says 'No, I think that 400 mushrooms is sufficient.'

I rest my case.
38471, I was thinking more along the lines of 500 sliced hams, but I like mushrooms, too.
Posted by Stevers on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I have no clue if heroimms/ava/whatever can read roles.

The High Herald would be trusted just as any imm would be not to share the secrets. Why wouldn't we trust the high herald, but we would trust an avatar?

Mushrooms for everyone!
38472, Better yet, make ROLE come after hero imm status
Posted by Stevers on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Stevers the Role Reader, Role Master Extraordinaire

If you move beyond Hero Imm, you get to the ROLE stage where you get to only read/review/reward roles/descs

yay!
