38359, is this a bug, oversight or as intended? cavefisher form.
Posted by RagerApplicant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The cavefisher form has cavernblend and ambush I assume to limit the opportunities for using the ambush skill. Was it an oversight to allow outlanders with chameleon power to ambush from whichever wilderness they like?

Just seems a little out of whack from the forms skills and abilities and so thought I would ask. The snippet beklow was on Trampled Green fields in battlefield area.

A cavefisher steps out from his cover.
A cavefisher's surprise attack === OBLITERATES === you!
That really did HURT!

I don't know if I'd exactly say this was intended, but it doesn't bother me. There was a while where jaguar had ambush but not full camouflage and we let that go.

I maybe could be persuaded that its ambush shouldn't be quite as good out of a cavern, but, eh. I don't think having to deal with an Outlander d-elf shifter cavefisher doing this is any harder to fight (and probably is a lot less bad) than a random human offense shifter jaguar ambushing you down.
38377, Not overly happy with the answer

What was the point in Zulghinlour balancing forms with respect to if and where they can blend or camo if said shifters can just go outlander anyway?

May as well just change the form to having camouflage instead. It is a pretty solid form in toe to toe fighting and you would be silly to fight a cavefisher in it's home terrain but, look, there is now no home terrain.

Thank you for the reply but I'm not happy with it as it seems like an abuse of a game mechanic to me but I am not an Immortal so I will just have to put up with the extra ambushes wherever and whenever.

38378, As its been said before, I'll say it again

If its so OP. Play one and make us believe you.

Just said it wasn't in keeping with the design of the forms.
38380, So what did you have in mind when you designed this form then? n/t

Zulgh made the form and gave it cavernblend and the ambush skill.

Outlanders are nothing to do with shapeshifters other than they accept them and they get the power chameleon.

Suddenly the cavefisher can ambush wherever it pleases and not with it's original skill set.

Putting these facts together I can say that the cavefisher (or any other form such as Shikra who has forestblend and ambush) is now not working in keeping with the design.

And no I will not be replying to you again. Any further facetious comments will just be treated with the contempt they deserve.

38387, Nope, just a curt reply to a glib and facetious remark.

Joining Outlander:
- no grouping with goods, obviously
- Fortress is enemy
- Empire is enemy
- Tribunal is enemy
- Village is enemy
- Scions are enemies (depending on the flavor of the week)
- Can't purchase anything
- powers are limited to windwalk, subvert guard (not sure if you can do this in form), ignite, and chameleon (and a few small ones)
- no gold for healers

AND he's a full dark-elf. Your argument is void for the fact that you're posting as a village applicant.

Joining Battle:
- dam redux power
- deathblow
- cabal usually has high numbers
- melee classes are ready to play out of the box, and Battle gives them powers to enhance that get-up-and-go build.

I'm assuming the shifter is a hero. If so, he's earned the right to abuse chameleon/ambush just by the sheer tenacity it'd take to get to hero with that combo.

Rude? Yes. Curt? No.

Was Lhydia's remark glib?

No.

Facetious?

Yes.

Thanks for your time, now please spend it elsewhere.

Curt - brusk, snappy, terse, offhand and yes, rude are considered synonyms.

Glib comment - colloquially here means smart arse comment used to provoke.

Go fling your #### somewhere else Stevers until you come up with a character that amounts to something.

Yes, the grammar in the subject is on purpose.

Doh, forgot to post anon, heh.

The shifter wasnt hero at the time, just a lucky combination. I dont have a problem with it, gives the village an excuse to take the sapling thing. It makes their mages unseen :)
38457, Where am from all chars amount to things of MANY.

Curt and rude are very similar, but curt implies brevity (which his post lacked).

Glib is a comment used to provoke, but implies that it was a remark made without/before thinking. Clearly this was planned out.

Nope, I did. No blaming Zulg for this one.

(It's an edge form, which I assumed you knew.)

Having gotten someone to call a dark-elf shifter too good in all seriousness, I declare Project Edge a success. :P

Fair enough but I never said TOO GOOD but as one of a few who have had the form I know it is a strong form and at the top end of Utility form damagers so figured the free roaming ambushes were a bit much.

I will leave it be as he only killed me the once when he jumped me in the maus because he was not a victim to aggro zombies anymore and I was.

If I remember correctly, cavefisher can replace an offense form or a utility form and its stats are somewhere in the middle of both.
38419, RE: And, not to make light of your concerns, but:
Posted by Abernyte on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Cooshee is 2nd tier off or utility
Hook horror is 2nd tier offense
Cavefisher is 1st tier utility

It's fine though, just something I couldn't get my head around and wanted to raise until all the numpties started chiming in for their own amusement and I posted anonymously only to avoid the shifter in questions working out my character but I messed that up.

You are correct, I mixed up how cooshee and cavefisher worked in terms of what they replace.

Drow don't seem that terrible to me as shifters. Having the mithril vuln mitigated by fighting in form seems like a pretty big deal.
