37883, Regarding joining Cabals.
Posted by Applicant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've tried to get in two cabals and don't get and response from the Leaders. One cabal, he plays midnight to morning hours, twice a week and was a prick because I didn't have sleek wands. The other cabal, the leader is always super invisible if they *ever* log in. Both chars of my are nearing a Hundred hours.
37894, It depends on the cabal.

I've had leaders ignore me when they really shouldnt.
They may have been busy but still. It doesnt take long to type "reply Moment." or whatever your RP dictates.

Ignoring an applicant really doesnt help.
Especially if they were new. Some invoker type characters can be very hard to get a hold of. I guess it depends on the cabal you are an applicant for. But I had problems even getting into Fortress recently with a similar experience (but it wasnt a mage i was playing). I still was a bit miffed but it all turned out in the end.

I know when I logged everything I'd sometimes discover someone had sent me a tell that I never knew about at the time. I assume it still happens only I rarely log these days.

Guessing cabal talking about sleeks was scion. Just because he acts like a "prick" about that doesn't mean you can't impress/please him in some other way.

However, I would note that life in scion without sleeks can be rough. You tend to be outnumbered most of the time, and therefore need protections. Keeping control of limited wands would be difficult, and lacking abs altogether would be nasty as hell.

I would also add that you could view this as a challenge. Basically turn your mind to finding sleek wands. Bribe other magi with gold for suggestions, or just be useful to them (probably a better plan since bribing risks them just lying and taking your gold).

Not sure who you mean by super invisible.

If you are talking about Syther, he's not super invisible. I see him quite a bit.

If you are talking about an outlander, well, they may not pop out often, but at least one is on a lot.

If you are talking about trib, the provost isn't on much from what I have seen, but some others in the cabal have been inducting.

If you are talking about fort (who's the leader of fort anyway?), I think you might be dealing with improved invis.

All of these have one common solution. Write a note to the character you are trying to contact.

Failing that, pray to a cabal imm on occasion in some ic fashion about your desire to join the cabal and your inability to meet the leader.

Did not like the ooc nature in..

"Did you find your sleeks" was thrown at me word for word.

Every time I play a mage, other mages like to say

Find your wands yet?
Find your sleeks?

I was hoping a leader would not base an interview on
your knowledge of wands.

Sorry, it's the truth.

There's still a small handful of people who roleplay hardcore and are actually decent at it. But the standard has fallen; some ways this is good, others it is not so good.

Here's some motivation for you: Be the change you want to see.

Yeah
37890, Who says he is?
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
He might be, but he might equally be setting you a task to challenge you.

It is also arguably legitimate rp for him not to want to induct anyone who isn't going to help him much in fights (although perhaps less good on the funstick side). However, he will have a relatively low limits as to how many he can induct, so every inexperienced person he takes is one less experienced person for him to draw on (sort of, since you can often get more out of apps than out of members).

You might find that if you had known about wands, he'd just have got you to do something else difficult for you.

You might find that if you had been interesting enough (important bit coming up) when you weren't looking to get inducted (end of important bit) he'd be more interested in you.

I have no way of knowing, but I'm curious what the response would be if you said, "No I haven't found them but I'm killing plenty of people without them; I'll kill even more when I find them."
37892, I got 0 pks and I died only four times, so I am trying to get in on RP alone.

. . . Not sure how relevant that is, considering that was when Eshval was around.

Have a decent role and actually play it out, and maybe one of the staff will hook you up.

Assuming we're talking Scion here, while you potentially CAN get in on RP alone, I don't recommend it. Your problem isn't that you can't get into the cabal, but that you probably won't have fun once you do.

Imagine half a dozen of your enemies -- even people who probably shouldn't be working together -- trying to gang you.

If your first thought is "####! Why are these guys trying to kill me so unfairly?" Scion will not be a fun cabal for you.

If your first thought is "Why aren't these guys RPing right?" Scion will not be a fun cabal for you.

If your first thought is "I think I can kill one of these gomers, then get away alive" you probably will have fun with Scion.

37898, Incredibly accurate statement. You ever play a Scion after Cabdru?

I'm still wondering who Glastrom was. Excellent character, excellent roles. At first I thought it might be Twist or lightmage.

fort would be rhone, and yes he has improved invis.
other than irelia who is around and vis alot, there is no harbinger and onya is quite hard to find. and i don't think irelia inducts reavers. and i heard balta wouldn't as well.
