37171, How to train watchful eye
Posted by Anonymous on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I don't ever remember it saving me from another ranger's snare. Perhaps low percentage is the problem, but here comes the question: how the hell do I train it, short of 'skill learn watchful eye'?
EDIT: Also, what's wrong with me posting anonymously?

End up in situations where it comes into play. There is a check whether you succeed or fail.

37174, Good question, and come to think of it

I have played a number of high level explorers. Watchful eye has never gone above 75% and has never saved me from anything.
It could be the rarity with which someone can actually sneak up on a ranger in the wilderness. I also suspect the skill is more for evading thief traps than ranger snares.
As for surprise attacks, who the hell can surprise a ranger in the wilds unless he is blind anyway?
Either broken skill or extremely niche.

37175, watchful eye and avoidance have some really nice niche bonuses

watchful eye not only gives you a chance to skirt snares, deadfalls, and traps. It also gives you a chance to avoid room affects like quicksand, brambles, pits, etc. Avoidance also lets you dodge shifter flyto and swimto.
If you want to make a character to hunt down and kill other rangers or outlanders you would be silly to not make an explorer. It just really lets you keep an upper hand against other nature types.

But I've never noticed it help against a snare or quicksand. I've found ways to train it though.

37183, how it orks vs quicksand
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
when you walk into a room with quicksand it does a check. If you suceed you get the message, "You notice quicksand here and avoid it" and then you are not stuck in the sand.
If someone creates it while you are in the room you get stuck in it. If you fail to suceed in the check you get stuck in it. So it just gives you a chance to enter the room and avoid getting stuck.
