36996, Whats really wrong with CF
Posted by Really? on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Its very simple...

People like Flaaayin.

This game has become a game of preps. Skill and talent are GONE! all you need is a giant sword spec and bash and you will kill everyone. And for thieves to have blindness, soften, boneshatter, mindcontrol and all the other class skills - why make a lich? The Imms have seriously let this game get out of control. I know everyone wants choices but no one really complained back in the day. I mean they did but it was more about being full looted with every death. This game is driving itself into the ground. Every class in the game doesn't need every other classes skills/spells. NO reason for a battlerager to have soften, blindness or any other SPELL...PERIOD!

I would rather be ganged by 3 people and full looted over being harassed by some A-hole who cant kill time but can steal/sac everything i've spent the last 20 hours collecting just so i stand a chance in a fight.

This game has destroyed itself. and the people like flaaayin who get rewarded for being idiots (look at how many people deleted when he got drillmaster) not a hard thing to figure out.

You will NEVER get new people or old interesting in this crap. What has CF become????

Sorry Flaaayin to pick you out but its not your fault that you have access to every skill in the game as a thief. The steal/sac is annoying as hell but the fact that thieves have access to every skill/spell in the game is just WTF. might as well give battle/rangers imbue. I mean why not just change it to a skill instead of a spell. that will get more people into the game!! lets do that!! Fing...stupid...

Just put the game back like it was 10 years ago and let people have fun again. Enough is enough.

Dear poster with the handle "Dirt":

This game has become a game of preps. Skill and talent are GONE!

Outcome of your hypothesis: I could hand a novice PC a bag of preps and he would somehow dominate. Laughable.

all you need is a giant sword spec and bash and you will kill everyone.

Demonstrably false.

Every class in the game doesn't need every other classes skills/spells.

Nor do thieves. Demonstrably false. Also, if a giant sword spec with bash (i.e., all giant sword specs) can kill everyone, wouldn't that make a thief with every skill in the game underpowered? I mean, you'd think other people would just pick the giant sword spec and defeat the thief.

The rest is ranting and feeble attempts at character assassination. I'm sorry a player with an obscure build is outplaying you, but this isn't why we have a discussion forums. If you have a reasonable complaint about game balance, start over in another thread, without the trolling for attention.

Eh. Maybe necessary, but not sufficient. With a certain requisite amount of skill a player can choose certain specific builds and, with enough preppage, do pretty well. That doesn't mean that *any* player can do well with those builds, or that such a player could do well with *other* builds.

Handle has nothing to do with it.

The point over all of this is the fact that a thief (annoying yes, well played yes) has skills/spells from OTHER classes. The soften spell is only cast by NPCs so why do thieves get soften? dont say Transmuters get it cause its a different spell with different limitations.

The point is why do all the classes have access to other classes skill/spells? A rager ranger gives up his spells so why is a rager thief able to use traps that cause blindness(spell) and soften(spell).

Just put stuff back like it was and quite trying to make a universe class. At this rate there will be 1 cookie cutter class in about 2 years with all spell/skill available but only X amount of points to spread in the hopes people will be different.

Flaaayin is the point of this post but he is by far not the target.

Because they're traps and not spells.

You seem to be arguing that no rager should ever have any skill whose effect matches up with what some mage gets.

Would you feel better if they changed the effect from traps to something with the same exact effects but called it something besides "soften" in order to avoid overlap with the spell?
37001, God you suck. Please stop playing the game. You are the problem. n/t

Disclaimer: I have not fought Flaaayin, but I've seen some of the logs and it seems brutal. (And I clearly don't play Flaaayin, he's waaaay better than me.)

However, how many successful Trapper thieves have there been?

I'm pretty sure that there have been statements in posts (and possibly even in FAQs)that claim the Trapper path is a pointless joke that no one should bother with.

Now there's complaints about him on both forums.

Maybe the player is a douche (I don't know) but I'd still give him respect for figuring out how to make this forgotten path work well.

Calling for an overhaul of something that (to my knowledge) ONE person has done successfully seems like misplaced anger.

If a particular thief is ruining the game for you (keep in mind this is not an air/xxx shifter or someone with nightgaunt, but a thief) befriend or make a Duergar summoner and do what you can to con-die him. He can't even recall.

tl;dr: I'd be reluctant to call something 'broken' based on the success of one character.
37000, I think...

I could be very wrong, but I'm pretty sure Flaaayin basically has two full thief paths. Using a combination of Immortal-given rewards and edges, presumably, he's got a (arguably OP) thief build that most players would not be able to create.

I've never fought or interacted with Flaaayin, so I have no idea if that's accurate. That's the gist of the whining I've heard through the grapevine, so take it for what it's worth.

This would be a separate point from the one the OP is making.

It's worth discussing whether thieves should have a hard cap of 120 thief points regardless of where they come from (devious versatility, RC rewards, etc.) I might could get on board with that.

What's funny is if you hadn't been a coward and posted with your handle, you'd have a lot more equity to bitch.

As it is...
36997, This ain't me, Flaaayin. Heh. But you are annoying. N/T
