36230, Control undead
Posted by Nekrowmansir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
How does this work in practice?
Can I use it on an undead that was aggro to me if I have a zombie rescue and then flee once I've cast control?
It feels like I can only use it on undead that are so wimpy that it isn't worthwhile, but the short duration makes me think that this must enable you to get some fairly powerful undead.
Fairly powerful undead all seem to be aggressive though.

How does this work in practice? -Like a zombie, but you cast it on a mob. A lower level mob.
Can I use it on an undead that was aggro to me if I have a zombie rescue and then flee once I've cast control? -Three words, invisto undead
It feels like I can only use it on undead that are so wimpy that it isn't worthwhile, but the short duration makes me think that this must enable you to get some fairly powerful undead. -There are some pretty potent same level undead out there.
Fairly powerful undead all seem to be aggressive though. -c 'invis to undead

You can't control an undead that cannot see you. So you CANNOT BE INVISIBLE TO UNDEAD. You also have to be higher level than the mob. Also if you have a pet already, you can't control any undead. Which means you have to control the undead before making a ghoul or mummy or golem or zombie. This is all from a very recent experiment I did with a necromancer. I found it to be a pretty useless spell.
The only redeeming quality to it is that I have seen some liches and hero level necromancers do some interesting things with it. Whether that was due to lich powers or simply being a high level, I don't know. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with it. Prove me wrong though. There's a few bugs with the class that continue to be unaddressed and maybe there is another one hiding in this spell.
Maybe a use would be controlling a juju from the mausoleum and using it to get you a high level corpse. That would be worth the effort to me. A disposable body + wall of putrid flesh means you can summon something really really healthy for your first zombie.

36236, Okay, I checked my logs... My memory was a little off.

You can control as many undead as your level divided by ten. So at level 30 you can have 3 controlled, or a golem, mummy, and a control... BUT you can control 3 and then make a golem, mummy, and zombie (theoretically). But the spell doesn't last very long, so you are really limited in what you can do with it in the time you have.

You misunderstand its purpose. Its not ment to replace a zombie.
And are you sure about the invis to part? I could have swore it worked for me.

36241, It doesn't work, far as I recall

And the improved invis helpfile specifically says that you cannot control or repel undead when using the spell.
