35943, Deletion/Reactivation
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
What is the official IMM stance on characters that delete, post goodbyes, find out what everyone thought of their characters and what track they were on, then reactivate?

I've heard and seen different things, so I was curious.

It's bad and might get your character denied. It always doesn't but it might and you have no right to complain if you do this and get denied. Sometimes there is mercy and the character is allowed to continue, but you can't count on getting the mercy if you do this.

That's pretty much it.

What and who is the deciding factor for this and why? I always thought of IMMs being equal in power based on their level. Why is it that the majority of IMMs want to see things one way but at the end of the day it isn't enforced? What is preventing consistency of rule and policy enforcement?

It is as dumb to be punished for things that IMMs have officially said they're okay with as it is to see others get rewarded for what has in the past been referred to as cheating.

-Whether you out yourself in the goodbye thread is a major factor. If everyone knows who plays your character, the odds are you are forced to delete when you reactivate.
-You might be allowed to continue if you don't out yourself in the goodbye thread.
-You are allowed to continue if delete and reactivate without posting goodbyes.

There are other factors such as which immortals are online making the call, the mood of the said immortals, political climate in the cheating front etc. For example, the Imms claiming in choir that Thnoumundin deleting and reactivating was a bad thing to do even though they let it slide this once arises from the political climate. Deleting, posting goodbyes and reactivating is something Imms don't want to see here and they are willing to make the next guy who does it a warning example. Thus, the political climate is really bad for those wanting to delete, post goodbyes and reactivate afterwards and will be a major factor when making the decision.
36035, Case by case basis.

I don't know the case in question, but we give staff leeway in deciding individual cases.

Deleting/posting/reactivating is frowned upon, and will generally lead to consequences of some sort. We're not interested in having procedures carved in stone so we can't consider an individual situation on its merits.

I wasn't very active when all of it went down. By the time I noticed he was back and running and opted to leave it be.

What's changed for me is being much more active about people who post their own battlefield thread (which annoys the #### out of me, Do you have no self-control? Can't you just wait 3 days? You might actually want to reactivate) and pushing them through so they don't get the opportunity to reactivate.
36039, Yup.

I used to do this reasonably aggeressively, but with my schedule getting ugly the last few months, it wasn't the case.

And yes, it's better if people wait for Death_Angel to initiate the threads.

Seems like circumventing the rage delete code would fix this problem, if someone wants a death angel thread *right now*. Just quit and log back in before deleting, right? Problem solved.
36044, Didn't work for Mhuurg.

I wasn't a ghost, hadn't been PKed or been in PK for a while with him. I loged on, did a who or who pk, did a rem all, drop all, talked with a few people. delete delete.

Came up as a rage-delete and 3 days before the thread went up. bleh
36047, Any sort of death

Relates to rage.

So if you die to a kobold using a jagged iron key as a sword, then delete. Its still a rage.
36049, Only works pre-hero

IIRC,all hero deletes are rage deletes
