35182, Things that really kills desire to play:
Posted by Thnoumundin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I do not mind fiar fight. I do not mind dying, I do not mind be ganged.

But I am ####ing mind thing like that - imo, that is a ####ing abuse. Currently, I am very close to deletion and leaving for another couple of years, because this is a ####. It is abuse and nonsense. Yes, if I summon him somewhere, we will fight and he will probably die, or I will. But not ####ing #### when character getting frozen and 100% going to die.

This happened twice already, and I am getting bored of this abuse.

Enjoy the log.

I'll kill him in game, no problems. Probably I should replace nickname, yes - so for that I apology, I didn't think it would looks like that.

Problem not with the paladin, but with the mob/combo.
35201, What I've never understood....
Posted by Torak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
...is how things like the Empire allow this to exist just outside? It's the equivalent of a high level mage sitting outside the Village or an Anti-paladin sitting outside the Tree. Why would Empire allow that spirit-knight or even Thrym exist just steps away? If anything, another entrance to the imperial city would be nice so annoying crap like this wouldn't exist.

Even if the road to the keep of righteousness was connected directly into the Imperial area it'd make it better for defenders and assaulters.

35220, Just digressing a bit about your point about balator
Posted by Erenthell on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've never seen any problem with the "empire allowing balator to exist" because I have always thought it to be a rather quaint lore and addition to the CF story. Balator is full of unique characters, kryldor, jaragh, bladerunner, "that battlerager guy", etc. I've always viewed it as a kind of asterix/obelix village, surviving against the evil empire against all odds and stopping the imperial advance down to Hamsah. Sort of like the thorn that can't be plucked out. So you have a small village, quite against the empire, with unique chars that are strong enough to repel the empire but for various reasons are content to just stay where they are.

just like obelix. whom I love. And wish someone would drop me into the cauldron of magic potion.

1) How is this any different than shamans, necros, or APs summoning someone to a locked room, dispel or sleeping them, and then killing them? Or even the simplest version of being cursed at Centurions, which is quite unpleasant. Hell, I'm rarely too happy about being rotted and sitting out for 10 min to wait it off. Or being plagued, poisoned, and energy drained while having NO way to actively stop you from doing it. Every class has strengths and weaknesses, and this is one of the very few, very SPECIFIC advantages I've been able to make use of as a Champion.

2) Instead of literally *IMMEDIATELY* whining about abuse, making childish threats which come across more as a vindictive player than anything IC, and posting the log to the forums, you might try merely realizing that yes, I got the best of you. Next step is that it takes very few precautions to keep that from ever happening again. It's no different than the fact that any time I'm fighting Imperials in or around Balator, I make certain to pick up a room key to the Inn as well.

3) Pro: Do you EVER have a ####ing clue what you're talking about before you chime in?

Personally, I understand that you're pissed, and died to a relatively dastardly trick. This is the Carrion Fields. It happens. Now, rather than bringing an ENTIRELY IC occurance out of context to the forums for a public washing, perhaps we can get back to the game?

You are kidding, right?
In a locked room you have a LOT of options. You can outdamage shaman (yes, pallys CAN do that); you can use orb of travel; you can have passdoor (phylactery of free movements); you can have some virtues that would save your ass.

But if you are HELD to #### for ####ing minutes, you have ZERO chances.

Don't play a fool, unless you are the one.

That IS abuse. I don't care for your excuses, but this instant-win button, and CF, for years, been getting rid of them. Charm person, mind control poison + maggots and other things were removed/nerfed.
This is the same.

Whine? If you call that a whine, okay. I do not really care. When I see a really good #### - I'm getting angry. Enough to say, during last 10 years of playing, I *never* posted anything like that. Not once.

There were ideas, suggestions and disagreements with imms, arguing and etc - but I never every complained about anything like that. And now I do.

And I have my holy right to do that, and I don't really care what will you say. I am totally correct here.

CF is a game where skill must give advantage, and not a win button.

See you in the fields.
35222, I think you are just pissed at dying
Posted by Abernyte on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It is not an insta-win button as it requires a very specific build....the champion paladin.

Had you summoned first, not a win. Had you worded instead of dispelled, not an instan-win. Had you Zubei with you to lag the paladin and gang him down like you did to Mhuurg (a thief, not even a monster damager!) then it is not an insta-win for the paladin.

It was a clever and viable tactic used by the paladin that can still be gotten out of by you.

Stop complaining and just overcome.

-----Abernyte

P.S. Yes, I know I have pissed and moaned my fair share and this has often been exasserbated by real life stresses but you will look back at this and see sense, sooner hopefully rather than later.
35211, I thought it was clever.
Posted by Quixotic on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'd have hated to have been on the receiving end of that, but it was a clever way to kill a class that can usually scamper away from any conflict.

Unless there's a backstory akin to the escaped Storm Giants in the Mines. At least they yell so you know their justification.

Posted by Welverin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've fought the mob. I've considered the Mob. It's a good aligned Mob. The Lack of backstory to the Mob does not make it any different from a game mechanics perspective. And that's what we have to work with, nothing more.
35228, wait, so are you saying you lack the ability to make critical judgment?

Posted by Welverin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The way you want it to be. Don't tell me the character is evil when it most certainly, according to the game mechanics, is not. I've learned with the past few characters that you can't put RL ethos into the game. Its the way it is. Thanks for the personal attack though. Seems to me that you were crying about this some time back on another thread.... Pot.... meet kettle.

"First, you wonder why you get all the personal attacks when you post such obviously inflamatory remarks about an active player.... Go figure."

I was responding to a thread that begged an opinion and I gave it. Just because it's not favorable doesn't mean it's inflamatory. When people worry about hurting peoples feelings with reasoned logic, then there is no reason, their is no progress.

I didn't go out and say the character was trash, I said that looked hokey.
35236, I canth quote too...
Posted by Welverin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
"I just don't think Truk is any more good than a Whitecloak.

Nor do I think anyone real or imagined with a modicum of self respect would play a respectible Paladin that way.

Just another Pro-pinion."

This is the personal attack that I was responding to. The fact that I pointed it out and pointed out your hypocratic attitude can sure be considered a peronsal attack if you wish, but I'll point out, that it was you who drew first blood against the player in question. The fact that you were wrong about the alignment of the Undead in question, just put you on the defensive, none of your arguments hold any water in this thread...

With that, I'm done. I had a bit of respect for you at one point, that bit keeps getting smaller everytime I read one of your posts.... Maybe I should stop reading them to save what respect I have for you... Yep, I think that's best for everyone involved.

Yes I gave my opinion on how a Paladin should act.

Yes, I commented on people playing a paladin this way.

No, I didn't attack the player by name because I don't know him so it's not personal.

There is a distinct behavior here and I commented on the behavior.

You commented on me, thus making it personal and leading to this.

You could have left that line out of that post 10 posts back and this would be a stream lined thread.

Furthermore, you're cherry picking because I've already accepted your premise that this is a good undead being, there are reasons it could be, and that it auto attacking doesn't otherwise make it not "Good".

I've tried to appologize to you because I admitted I was a bit caustic.

Yep you sure did, in a thread about a paladin who acted contrary to your perception.
>Yes, I commented on people playing a paladin this way.
>

Yep, thereby implying to the reader that the player in question to use your words "Nor do I think anyone real or imagined with a modicum of self respect would play a respectible Paladin that way" This is exactly what you said, and taken in context to the thread is a personal attack on the player of that paladin, regardless on if you said his name specifically or not.

>No, I didn't attack the Paladin or it's player personally
>because I don't know either.

I don't know you personally either, but you took my comment as a personal attack.

>
>There is a distinct behavior here and I commented on the

The behavior is linked to the person. Without it the behaviour does not exist. Thus you are also commenting on the person.

>
>You commented on me, thus making it personal and leading to

I made an observation of your past posts, and your current ones. That is all I did. You have said in this very thread that you made observations and those should not be considered attacks. Again, the hypocrisy(sp?) amazes me.

You named me personally, so I took it personally.

Done, finito, zipped, locked.

Ah, yes, you can take it personally if I named you personally, but was it an attack? or an observation? Therein lies the crux of the issue.
35237, That's not a personal attack you ####ing moron.

This, however, is.

Stop posting. The only time anyone responds to your idiotic pontificating is when they have nothing better to do. They know whatever you're talking about is either wrong, wholly misunderstood on a fundamental level, or not relevant to the rest of the populace. Christ.
35196, Even if he is a goodie, he is not.
Posted by Thnoumundin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That's a nonsense. That knight will slay with the absolutely same result and goodie, and neutral, and evil, right?

So how the f..ck he can be good aligned, if it's a simply dumb aggro mob with ridiculous piss-off prog?

About paladin, they are supposed to be honorable, brave, valorous, powerful and mighty. Or not anymore? Good examples - Balhard, Leika. Would they kill that way? I do not believe they would.

Even not every most evil character would kill that way. Seriously.

Daev, turn on your common sense, please. Sometimes you have to do that.

35203, RE: Even if he is a goodie, he is not.
Posted by Trouble on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Think of it this way -- the Spirit Knight has sworn to protect the area against all intruders and so he will attack any who venture in. The Whitecloaks were the same way with the idea being (I believe) that anyone who wasn't with them wasn't really sworn to protecting the Light and so was an enemy.

Heck, at that level, it's not even much different than CG in Outlander occasionally battling a OG in Tribunal or a good-aligned villager going after a good-aligned mage.

That's not the same as the general, feel-good, type goodie who wants to help everyone who isn't evil and only wants to kill truly evil.

And frankly, at your level the Spirit Knight is only annoying because of the hold spell and because you happened to be in a pk. It's not much different than fighting next to a death trap and getting the other player to flee into it.
35207, But we aren't really talking about the MOB or even good evil here.
Posted by Pro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think it's more an ethics/values thing of which Paladins are supposed to exemplify the best.

I think the Paladin looks like a loser here.

But, I surmise he'll be tatt'ed extra virtue and all that. That's how these "Anti" Paladin posts end up.

No bad deed goes unrewarded.

(Perhaps a slight amount of hyperbole in here.)
35208, RE: Even if he is a goodie, he is not.
Posted by Thnoumundin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Goodie that is killing any other goodie on sight = evil, no?

Try to play empowered paladin who will kill other paladins/goodies. I will see how long you will play. And even goodie outlanders/ragers, who were killing too much other goodies had an alignement change, no?

Besides, I had an evil character with the same idealogy, and i remember few emperor healers with sphere peace.

Anyways, I was talking not about good or evil. Knight may be evil - very well, but if he had an insta-kill prog and sitting in Balator, that's ####. There isn't a big difference if it's 100% PWK or just a little minute hold person, it's all the same.

I just don't think Truk is any more good than a Whitecloak.

Nor do I think anyone real or imagined with a modicum of self respect would play a respectible Paladin that way.

Just another Pro-pinion.
35202, RE: You are assuming I am making an assumption, I am not.

Actually, you are making an assumption that the only valid way to look at 'good' alignment is your way.

And it's Truck and he's not the Spirit Knight though he is in the same area a few rooms away. At least he was the last time I looked. Truck was a chaotic good ranger who led Master's back in the First Age (can't recall if he was the first leader of Master's or the second).

First, you wonder why you get all the personal attacks when you post such obviously inflamatory remarks about an active player.... Go figure.

Second, I see nothing against the code in what the paladin did... At least no the way that I interpret it.

People mistake honor for parity all the time, they are just not he same thing IMHO.
35227, Really? Really man?
Posted by Pro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You don't see anything wrong with a Paladin, the paragon of vitruous behavior and valor planning on using the undead to fight his fights?

And I'm not talking about honor(Which it damn sure isn't honorable) or parity or morality.

It's an ethics thing. It looks bad, it goes against the code (I'm not going to agrue the obvious which you can't see) and it seems like a dirty trick which is something Paladin's are supposed to be above.

Food for thought: Why don't paladin's have dirt kick?

Right and wrong are not grey areas to me. This was clearly wrong for a Paladin to do.

And I'm not the one who posted this thread. I made a comment and have given my responses to the respondents. So throwing your barb my way is really an expression of your own frustration at having been disagreed with by me.

If you look above you'll see where I suggested the thread be snipped.
35229, the fort is defended by undead, how do you like them apples

Maran Tarra'bal is an undead spirit and good. thank you and try again.
35233, That's a good point and there are good undead around Thera.
Posted by Pro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
But they don't auto attack everything on sight which is what this Spirit does.

But as this thread goes on, I can think of several IC reasons why it might.

At any rate, I've made my point and my opinion isn't going to change.
35231, RE: Really? Really man?
Posted by Welverin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Yes really. You make the assumption that all Undead/Ghosts must be evil. In fantasy this is not a hard and fast rule. If you say it goes against the code, please provide a refrence and data to back it up. You're argument that I can't see it and you can is specious on it's face and holds no water with me.

As for the barb, your whole response to this thread seems a bit of projection to me....

I'll live with that. :P

But I still believe mobs like that do not need to exist in common places. Explore areas - sure, cool. But here? That's really a ####, because I am surely not last one to be pissed off by it.
35184, That mob has been there for a long time.
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Work around that area and don't fight summoners in it if you notice they are going to use it. There are a few other rooms there that can really screw you over if you flee/walk in.
35187, RE: That mob has been there for a long time.
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
"That mob has been there for a long time..."

True. But that Paladin skill hasn't. Invokers at least had to get you to walk past the room outside, or summoners had to attack you and hope you fled in the wrong direction.

I doubt this will placate you much, but I think this area is on the short list for rewrite by a Hero Imm.

I'm not sure where I got this idea and I'm probably making it up. However, if such a short list were to exist I'd also imagine that Whitecloak Encampment (which is now just plain gone last I looked) and Arial City probably precede Balator on it.

Bwhahaha Arial City....I probably still have the files somewhere on the hard drive that had 100 rooms of it written up...sadly there was another 100 rooms to go. It was Shokai's baby so everything was going through him. Ah well
