34636, What's up with some of you IMM's lately?
Posted by Guilo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I mean, I understand people make mistakes and all. But you guys need to realize CF is way the #### watered down these days. There's no longer the 30-40 solid vets day in and day out. You're lucky to have 10-15 vets on at any given time.
You can't keep holding these golden standards over people when they haven't been warned or 100% not breaking rules. I'm referring to the Zath post on dioxides mostly, but theres been other numerous occasions lately. I don't get the really really ####y comments and snide ass attitude to a player that obviously hasn't broken any rules and is carrying gear. Put it in the rules if you want to punish someone or boot him from Trib if it's really that bad. But the inconsistent punishment is pretty #### on your guys part... especially followed with a "#### you" attitude.
If you guys don't stop with things as light as that offense I'm mentioning, your games going to be gone in less than a year.. and that saddens me. I mean it with all due respect that I think you guys hold us to a standard, yet where are you guys at lately? What happened to global echoes, crazy quests, where the #### is divine experience for doing cool stuff? If you guys are going to just let us rot on our own down here when we are doing cool things, then quit busting our chops over the smallest #### whenever it's convenient for you.
It's not cool. I'm not even playing anything right now, but I just am pretty outraged at how unfairly some of you have been acting, and how you have this *actual* god-like attitude toward us as a playerbase. Yeah it's give and take, but there's going to be a day where you needed to put forth a little effort to keep some players and you didn't and our history as a cool game is gone.

The character's movement has been reset to where it was. The title will stay for now, but I discussed the stat change with another IMP and we both agreed it was unwarranted.
Edited to add: On a side note, the forum-based uproar over this is not why the decision was made to undo the stat change. Quite the opposite, in fact. I noticed the title, checked the character's history, saw that the stat change had happened, and disagreed with it. THEN I saw all the forum posts and almost decided to let it go, due to the attitudes being displayed.
In the end I decided that forum posts or no, the stat change was still unwarranted in my opinion, discussed with another IMP, and undid it.

For what it's worth, I agree with you that the punishment was inappropriate.
Murderous greed is fine role-play...for an evil character.
If his level of greed was bad enough, and I think you could make a good case that it was, then he should have been turned evil. If it wasn't that bad then leave him alone.

34641, Whats up with all the players lately?

If your char gets a flaw or title from an Imm your role with it in char and rp the #### out of that. If you do it well enough you might even get more then just removement of the flaw.
Stop crying on ooc forums and play your character.

Well, seeing how he posted EVERYTHING for you to make an informed decision...oh wait...he didn't post everything...nevermind.

34638, Smokescreen.
Posted by Splntrd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Even if he DIDN'T post everything, even if he genuinely IS hoarding, the guy hasn't broken any rules. The game is built to allow people to make crappy decisions like that. The fact that now people are being punished for things that used to be acceptable (albeit "gay") is what has people upset. And this isn't even the FIRST time recently something like this has happened.
See, Orcfest. See, Jindicho.
An Imm sees something they don't like (and it's fine for them to not like it) and throws down absurd punishments for things that aren't against the rules. I can ALMOST see the justification that it's in response to a character's roleplay, but then shouldn't these "punishments" be enacted with some kind of roleplay in return?
EVEN IF the Imm was completely in the right, it's a REALLY ####ty way to moderate. So you disagree with his playstyle? So what? This is an open-ended game, he can play it however he wants within the context of the rules. That's the entire point of the game. That's what keeps people here. If you're going to start saying "My way or the Highway," then I think you'll find a lot of people are going to choose the highway.

Not a smokescreen at all. A rp opportunity that didn't go his way, so he cried like a baby.

34639, Even if he didn't...
Posted by Guilo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The worst that could have happened was a warning that he disregarded making it justifiable.. which doesn't seem to be the case, but hey, maybe so. It still doesn't change the fact that theres 2-3 uber gear lockers in Herald and all they do is sit on their asses, are they getting their movements halved? Especially a certain thief? How can you enforce what happened to him when it isn't even a rule not to do it, just because it isn't in his role doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to... it just means he should get booted from Trib if it's *that* freaking bad.
It still doesn't mean some of my points aren't valid. There's a bunch of other cases like this recently, one being Jindicho which I thought wasn't right at all even though it wasn't *that* severe of a punishment. All I'm saying is... there isn't HALF the amount of IMM love going around that there ever used to be, how isn't is disheartening for us to only be punished, especially the most nit-picky things?
You of all people would be the last I'd ever be speaking to to begin with though, and I'm very happy you're back. I've always loved your interactions and how in your face with RP you are. But when it really comes down to it... you, Enlilth, and Thror are really the only people interacting. Looking at divine xp in people's PBF's two years ago compared to now is just rough... it's like a ####ing dance festival to get any now. All the normal RP snoopers left and no one felt like taking up the reins, expect to punish.

How was he punished in accordance to the rules? He wasn't placed into RoTD. He wasn't slain and purged. He was given a title and a flaw that he can easily turn around and roleplay. Instead, he chose to go and whine for sympathy from the players. Lyr is correct, none of the facts were presented by the player. In fact, he chose to pray about it "with poor form" and then came to take his argument to an OOC forum when it didn't go his way.
I challenge this player to show his absurd inventory (which noticably hasn't changed much in the past month) then ask yourself why the Gods wouldn't find it amusing to mock him.
Remember - mortals are playthings of the Gods. Divine intervention is easily in favor or against you depending on how you choose to roleplay it.

> Remember - mortals are playthings of the Gods
I don't like that argument.
99% of the time, the "Gods" STFU and sit around with their thumbs up their assholes because the PLAYERS of those "Gods" know that what those deities would do "in a perfect RP world" would kill their game overnight. There are cheap, gimmicky excuses for why Imms don't interact more, negatively, with players, but the fact of the matter is that most of the game, it's the OOC aspects of the game that decide what kind of "divine intervention" might happen, not the RP of the "Gods".
Why is it then that the IC "Gods" only take notice of our legendary heroes of Thera when they're hoarding shinies, and why the #### do Gods care now rich and pimpin a mortal is? And furthermore, if this is IC "divine intervention" why is it "An Immortal" chewing someone out in a very OOC tone and not some RP-persona doing some actual RP?
It's ####ing cheesy and lame and if you guys don't agree, fine, but some of your players seem to be getting fed up with this #### so either change, shut the #### up, or respond with something more than "You don't know the whole story, so ugghh!" If we're wrong, SHOW us. If we don't know the whole story, GIVE IT to us. If log is edited, punish the person for their douchebaggery by POSTING the real log, not just hiding behind excuses and locking threads because there's too damn many of them these days.
End of rant. That felt good.

Players like you don't deserve the whole story because you will just spend time trying to find a way to make it work for you.
Thror was right. He was given a warning with a title. He sent up a jerk pray about it and got hit with a little rp opportunity. He decided to whine like a baby. He got what he deserved.

From a rp standpoint, Thror is right. Mortals are the play things of gods. This is nothing that really needs a reality check. It is the fantasy part of the game. I don't think Thror meant that in an ooc way at all.
The character did get fair warning (the title first) and plenty of time to take it to a rp level. He chose to be a smart ass in the form of a pray which forced an ooc response.
As far as something like what happened to him being permanent, that is/was completely up to the player in question.
