3433, Pole specs/shield cleave
Posted by Scrimbul on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
In the same vein as spears charging just like polearms, wouldn't you be able to put as much force behind a polearm to cleave a shield as you would an axe? Many axes are as heavy and awkward as polearms, it's just that shield cleave with a polearm, in addition to strength would require dexterity and finesse.
So maybe allow polearms to shield cleave with a reduced chance of success? (not that it's currently very high ot begin with.)
Just a thought.

Axes are intentionally top-heavy, and they are all basically cleaving weapons. Polearms are, by necessity, balanced closer to their center, so the wielder can still move the far end. This is great for reach, but bad for smashing through wood. Also, while some polearms are cleaving weapons, many aren't.

What about lances? They do pierce through shields or even break them? Think polearms specs are highlighting that they don't have a maledict attack which can effectively cripple another.
'Nuff said.

Maybe on from horseback or in a movie.

Well, right. But dagger specs don't have a defensive skill, and sword specs can't stop you from fleeing, and...

How about this though.
1. Give polearm specs a better charge from the avg joe warrior. Give them a chance to stun an opponent for two or three rounds when they charge.
2. I picture polearm specs as being good for battling multiple opponents. Add to this by adding arc chop. Arc chop let's the polearm spec hit anyone fighting him with a weakened chop.
I think both of these would spice up polearm nicely and add some new strategies, but not make them overpowered.

I think I put that in around five years ago. :)

I checked to see if this got updated when we allowed spear users to Charge, and we did. They get a lift as well.
