33423, Time out room
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So I was thinking we have a couple of instances where players end up very emotional after taking a smack and some imms that don't like back talk who just keep escalating the punishment.
In the end nobody wins in these situations.
Sticking people in the realm of the dead with the level of activity we have now is also somewhat suck.
I propose a new punishment called "the time out room"
you timeout someone for X number of ticks and during that time they are stuck in a room and frozen. A new lock gets put on their site while they are in there. if they disconect the timer stays and they just do their time out when they log back on. once it is over they are transfered to MS.
I think that by automating and depersonalizing the process you might help with some cases.
You could bring back puff and have him poke people and chit chat in the time out room.

33454, The capability exists.

We can stick you in the Realm of the Dead and ignore you. We can ban or unban sites as needed. We can freeze you so zero commands go through. All of these commands are part of basic ROM, so they've always been there.
It's not terribly effective at getting someone to stop the behavior in question, especially when you don't even explain what the behavior is. This is why it isn't done. We do have a lot of experience with this sort of thing.
If you get pulled for cheating and escalate matters by being a jackass, however, it's not going to end well for you. The easier answer than "new" immcommands: Don't do that. Be an adult.

33433, Can't see it helping

People will just demand an audience with the imms to "find out what they did wrong" even though they probably know exactly what they did.
Then they'll pretend to act reasonable whilst coming across as childish. The use of proper language doesn't mean that your content is guaranteed to be sensible (although it is probably preferable to a bitching out some imm).
Honestly, when I came back to that orc thing I was just struck by how juvenile it was. Sure, you may not agree with the position taken, but it was blindingly obvious why it had been taken even before it had been taken.

33430, A better idea...

Just deny and ban and remove the conversation out of it. It lets everyone move on.
