31768, wtf has Fort
Posted by Dallevian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
gone so long without leaders, especially on the Acolyte side? It has even been over a month without a Marshall. Thank goodness Nnaeshuk plays a lot and has picked up that slack but it's kind of ridiculous to not appoint leaders.
If you see a guy that does well, plays decent hours, and is past level 30...make him the leader. You don't have to be 200+ hours and a hero to be a good leader. I love it when a cabal elects a guy in the 30s to lead, even more so when it is an Emperor or battle Commander.
You guys need to pull the trigger more often, more quickly.

Like Isildur said, it's because they all suck. I'd rather prefer no leader to a leader that is sub-par compared to leaders in the past. IMO, that just lowers the RP and PK standards that people have to put in to become leader.

Dude. You sound like Scrimbul.
The obvious answer is: everybody in the Fort (except Nnaeshuk) sucks. :)

It's usually more complicated than that.
For example, sometimes you have a handful of decent characters that you're pretty sure don't want to be leader.

I don't generally give two ####s about most cabal leadership or absence thereof, whether I like said cabal in question or not. I'm more than willing to go uncaballed and make a trash role just for an excuse to punk them.

Usually if you phrase it more politely, it will get more action.

Kinda what I was thinking too.

Can I ask a bit more nicely for him? I think it would be great to have the leader spots filled in the Fort. I've been watching some of them lately and I think there are a few good candidates.... Not that my opinion matters on that one, but it would be nice to be a little more fleshed out. This is not a plug for my char... I don't think he's leader material.... But man there are a couple of them there that could do the job I think.

I'm not chasing you down with a bat and yelling wildly about Fort not having leadership.
Allow me to clarify. I am mildly annoyed, somewhat bewildered, and not at all exasperated over this topic. I do not even have a pledge or applicant to the cabal. I just cannot fathom why imms are so reluctant to appoint cabal leaders. Fort has gone a ridiculous amount of time with having no leadership.
If someone wants to handle the reins, give him a hand up on the horse.

>I'm not chasing you down with a bat and yelling wildly about >Fort not having leadership.
After 15 years of reading posts that demand to know why the #### I haven't done things or stating that it's ridiculous that I have or haven't done some thing, I have a fairly thick skin about it.
I don't think most people do. Sometimes, even former staff I was pretty sure had a thick skin about this kind of thing, I later found out really didn't.
Try this:
If you want a Fort leader so bad, why the #### aren't you playing a Fort character?* It's completely ridiculous that you're playing something else or doing other things with your time when Acolyte needs leaders now. Look, why don't you quit your ####ing job and roll a second character to be Cardinal if you think it's so important. I cannot fathom why you would be so reluctant to do this.
Does that paragraph make you at all inclined to do what I ask?

31776, Yea, he phrased it badly

Regardless, I think his point is that as much as the players make up the game, the responsibility that imms have also greatly contribute to making the game enjoyable and fun.
Seeing as I was once in your position, at a certain point you have to ask yourself, and maybe ask the other imms to ask themselves, besides all these administrative and debugging concerns, what am I doing to make the game fun? Even moreso, what can I do to make the game fun? More quests? More interactions? Appoint a leader?
I sympathize for you guys - I really do. I can see it like another job, instead of a hobby. In fact, plenty of you may even think like that. Just think of it as a hobby and have as much fun as we're having. Ultimately, an imm that has a blast will reflect the players moods.
People bitch, and even some leave, saying that imms/players are assholes, they're not enjoying themselves, etc. Now as much as you guys aren't willing to fully moderate players being assholes, you can try to improve things on your side.
Just some food for thought.

Anyway, just some food for thought. I don't really have any commentary on the Fort leadership situation in specific.

31781, Daevryn's posts entertain the hell out of me

Guy probably already works 15 hours a day as it is even if he had nothing to do with CF. Time for all of us to quit bitching about everything imms are or are not doing and do something about it ourselves. You want leaders, roll a char and make him one. You want better imm lovin, make an imm char. Guess that means its time for me to do my part.
One heroimm coming up! Of course I'll get denied, but at least I'll give it a go.

oh cool what command do I type for that?

31786, Role +
Posted by thendrell on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Follow up with consistent rp as necessary. Continue process until results are obtained. Really not that hard to make a name for yourself among other characters which usually draws imm attention. PK skills are usually not required for every leader spot, though the people who tend to be the best rp'ers are often vets who can also PK well.
Players that don't have the desire to actually work to make someone a leader character shouldn't complain. And really, that is probably the problem, nobody of any real quality has probably stepped up to earn the spot. Baer probably doesn't care which player holds the spot, so long as she knows the person can do the job as it is supposed to be done. And with most vets adamantly refusing to play fortress it is tough to find someone to fill the spot.

telnet role emote
Spend a lot of time playing, RP consistently and don't be a douche. Wa-la. Being good at PK is helpful but by no means required.

31862, If you ever said that to me when I was playing...

...I totally would have rolled a fortie.
PS Totally agree with you about the thick skin thing. Valg has probably heard more tales of how he ####ed every player in the game in four letter sentences more times than we can count, and he still came back!
