31312, Ehren Sould revisited

(Warning: It's 7 am and I haven't slept at all, so if anything in this post seems to not make sense, you'll know why)
The last time this edge was discussed in depth, you (Daevryn)said:
>2) Some skills (e.g. bash) also work less well in general if >your target is being mobbed. Here, mobs count for something >-- bash is less reliable on someone already fighting five >zombies. > >When I said "yes, the Ehren edges can care about mobs" I'm >talking about #2 here -- Ehren Soul will make it harder to >bash the guy fighting five zombies than if you didn't have the >edge. (It also has some effect on #1, but there mobs don't >count.) Conversely, it'll make it harder to bash you as the >guy fighting five zombies if you have it.
So can a conjurer with servitors or a necromancer with an army can take this edge, and still gain benefit from it provided that they don't have other PCs fighting alongside them in PvP?
Along the same lines, if, say, a rager has this edge, and someone raids, will the edge start working against him if he alone strikes the raiding PC while the raider is fighting either the giant or the Destructor? In other words, would the Destructor (or giant) and one rager fighting against one mage count as outnumbering your opponent and make this edge start working less well or even cause it to start working against you?

Some benefit, sure. On the other hand, they probably should give up all hope of landing a skill like lash or batter.

Yes. As the post you're quoting indicates, there's sort of two parts to ES; the part that can make some skills less likely to land wouild apply in this case.

Although, are you better off fighting away from the Destructor, or with it at a penalty to some things? Even with ES I'd probably stick with the Destructor in a lot of cases.

31368, So, just to clarify

With the part of Ehren Soul that would apply in this situation--making some skills take a penalty while fighting the destructor--does that aspect continue to stack and get worse over time, or is it purely situational, in that, if the rager fights at the destructor one time, will that make it more difficult for him to do so a second time, and worse yet a third time? Or does that aspect of Ehren Soul reset each time so that the second and third times are no more difficult than the first time?
I only ask these questions because I would hate to roll up a sphere honor character, take the edges and a legacy to match, then find out that it totally screwed my character because I didn't know how to use it properly and suffer endlessly, when I could have avoided the trouble by knowing how to use it properly in the first place. Trial and error only works well if the penalties from error aren't permanent and are reversible.

It's a situational penalty. You're trying to bash someone who has a bunch of other stuff getting in your way, you take a penalty for that; if you have ES, it's worse. It's not better or worse the second or tenth time this happens.
Getting into fights where other PCs are involved is the only way to cause longer-term problems for yourself with Ehren Soul that are worse than you would experience if you didn't have the edge. As long as this is strictly in the minority you probably don't have to sweat it too much, although of course your character depending on their take on honor might.
