Did you guys really change backfist to where it can deathblow again?

What about riposte? Concealed? Swiftstrike?

Why change it and tell no one? Or is this an oversight on code versioning due to the server wipe?

Yeah, but it's weaker deathblows that don't add that much damage.

Ordasen convinced me to try backfist that way some years ago when he was running Battle. I don't remember the reasoning.

It doesn't seem to be -that- much weaker.

Something isn't adding up here.

There's a certain amount of randomness in weapon damage. I don't think it ever gets even as high as double damage near hero from what I can remember.

I have to believe you're mistaken, because I checked and it appears that I made that change on October 21st, 2005.

Because oblits is roughly double demolish, and yet a normal backfist is doing a mutilates.

I don't remember the natural range of hand attacks going all the way from mutilates to demolish, although I could be wrong.

Without seeing the code, it "feels" like it is probably doing at least double damage.

Hand to hand damage tends to vary more than most weapons in the game.

I made the entire build for getting deathblows with backfist. Got backfist to 89 and deathblow never fired on backfist once. I highly doubt I had that ####ty of luck over the course of 50+ hours and using hands almost exclusively.

He's even admitted it.

Once.

And that's why CF crashed.

I gave you the exact date it changed; what you make of that or whether you believe it or not is up to you. I don't have any reason to lie about it.

Pretty sure I was DBing on backfists. I'll try to find it in some logs (if I have any - I don't have a folder for Galtholnicus on this machine which points to me not having any :( )

I harassed you pretty hard when I had Teldasill =P

For what it's worth (maybe nothing :P) I never knew DB hit on backfist, either, so I went through a few of the Taqab logs you posted and found this:

It looks like a possible DB at the end there. Other than that, though, you had almost no backfists in the logs I looked at. You were always wielding a staff or a sword+shield in them!

I only found 2 logs of me on qhcf.

But I did grep my pk fights last night and got no keyword matches. I very well could have done it incorrectly though. But in 50+ hours of having those skills I never found/saw/remembered it.

I will now make another rager assassin with dreams of Takashimi in my head.

(I still think something has changed or been fixed inadvertently.)
