Hi.

So double exp lasted a week. I didn't get much mileage out of it. I tried, but I just can't play much during the week. It was nice while I had it, though, especially in recouping some of what was lost in the server/pfile wipe. But level 22 is a far cry from what I had and lost.

I didn't play multiple characters during the bonus - I focused on one. I figure some took as much advantage of it as possible and probably got 2 chars past 35 as they could. Sorry, I couldn't. I'm sure several of you imms didn't get to play much either as you were stuck working on code, helpfiles, cabals, and religions.

Would you guys consider scaling the bonus to something like 66% bonus this week and 33% the week after to help some of us catch back up? Or maybe throw out some more this weekend?

And have it as a toggle.


If we are ranked number one from top mus sites, then set it to 100%, 2 is 90%, and so on to 10% for 10th place. If you come in and try to toggle it on, set a reminder there that the bonus is 20%, and if you want more go vote!

If people don't want it, then they can choose to not be effected by others voting to keep the double xp as high as they can.

Its not like a reward to individual players, it is a reward to the player base as a whole for support in a menial task, and simple reward to keep it in mind.

Then sign me up to vote for no more increased XP at all.

I think that's against TMS's rules around voting, though I'd have to reread them to be sure.

It was a big discussion about it on their forums. Any kind of "motivation" beyond just asking people politly to vote is against their rules.

I'm not making any promises, but something like the weekend... maybe. I'll give it some thought.

Decisions around this are made harder in that some people like double XP, and some people don't like double XP. Half a dozen people told me that they were waiting for it to go away to start playing again, and it seems safe to assume there are more where those people came from. I'm pretty much in that boat myself, honestly -- there's a narrow set of circumstances in which I want and happily take double XP but for the most part I avoid playing until it's passed.

I'd be content just getting my new char bumped up to my old char's level. 35. That's it. Once I get there I'm cool with ranking as usual. But to get less is more of a shaft.

So what you said begs the question - how about a toggle?

I think you need to make distention code work on them much sooner.

Personally I'd like to see double exp for any group without a natural tank in it.

I feel like "natural tanks" will get discriminated against for groupmates if this was implemented. There are places that a group of three can learn efficiently, that currently grant less experience than usual, that would be better than settling for normal xp and a natural tank if they were given double xp.

You have to get down to a pretty fine level of detail. E.g.

tortoise without healer in the group = not a great tank.
tortoise with healer in group = great tank.

lawful good conjie post-archon = great tank
any conjie pre-archon = terrible tank
neutral conjie post-archon = maybe good maybe bad

svirf dagger spec = terrible tank
svirf dagger spec with autumn harvest alongside transmuter = good tank


You'd have to code in a ton of little cases in to get something that is accurate, and even then you'd have questions and oddities.

What if double XP (for this strange, post-purge transition period) scaled down (or up, depending on your preference) with level?

Either it starts at Double and scales down to zero mid-range, to populate the mid-range, OR it starts at 0% at lvl 1 and scales up to 100% at around mid-range, to encourage populating the upper range. Scaling up also benefits people who would prefer to rank slower at lower levels to improve skills and take advantage of quests.

Another benefit of scaling up might be that it encourages characters with some initial investment, more than acting as a venue for rolling and re-rolling dozens of throwaways.

I would like to see an extra xp modifier bump into affet once a char hits 40.

The ranks from 40-51 are vastly different then all others in that you are moving into a space where most of your range has a significant advantage over you in that they have been 51 a long time. They have better skills, better gear, and nothing better to do with their time then hunt.

You have said it yourself nep most of the time when you push to hero it is either when not many people are around or when you have a ludacris amount of help. It is simply because it is a lot tougher in general to rank through those ranks when you have a lot more enemies potentially trying to stop you with the tools to do it. So why not put in like an extra 20% xp bonus during those ranks to balance out this fact.

From a gamepoint standpoint the people ranking with obscene help in a powergamey way will spend less time mindlessly killing mobs and those people who try to rank during adverse times will be able to get more done in between the assaults. People who don't want to rank wouldn't be affected.

As much as I LOVE to see the HUGE numbers of XP during double-xp it's not worth it. (Except for a certain period of time in certain builds life-span.)

Overall I think the double-xp is worth it in the long run as it might get more people hooked once it's gone, + the one's waiting for it to pass will return either way.

It doesn't effect me much but I recall playing an Ehren guard a good few years back and Balgrimnr 'blessed' my character with an exp multiplier to ease the pain of the solo ranking that my fire giant staff/spear had been doing up to date.

I realise you have other mammoth sized jobs to sort out first due to one thing or another but would it be possible for a toggle for players that, during a dbl exp session, they can toggle it off so that nobody feels they shouldn't log on. I do realise that no one forces them to group or rank but it was just a thought.

Honestly I'm a huge fan of it not because it's a reason to just go out and level so much as it's a good excuse to roll up something I've never played before and just go for it since it won't take forever to level and I won't get tired of it around level 25. So far it's been a good call with my current character, my first thief and non-mage to actually make it decently :D

I'm not going to quit playing over it, but I every time I logged in this weekend, I hoped that I wouldn't see that line.

I understand the allure of extra XP, but for others, I wish there was a way to turn it off.
