I was told that it may be possible to bash through shield of slime, I was under the impression that was not true. Could you clarify this? I had one hell of a time fighting an invoker I could not "headbutt, spinebreak, lash, trip, bash"

It is possible. Note, this doesn't mean you will succeed every time.
