29426, Weaponbutt vs. The Field
Posted by Thiefy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I hear conflicting reports about how reliable weaponbutt blackjack is. One camp says its so unreliable that its hardly worth trying. The other camp says its about as reliable as garrotte and blackjack, with the main difference being the duration.
Who should I believe?

It's less reliable than normal blackjack, but I wouldn't say it's a lot less reliable.

Can I ask where garrotte fits in? Always assumed its about like regular blackjack, headgear nonwithstanding. Or is it more in line with weaponbutt?

I don't actually know the answer to that, so I'm intentionally not providing one.

29449, Garrote is better than normal blackjack
Posted by Klaak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I had normal blackjack with Tellik (arial), and had a pretty good feel for how often it succeeded or failed. Then I followed up Tellik with an arial binder Imperial thief. And compared to blackjack, garrote seemed to rarely fail. It still had it's share of failures, but it succeeded FAR more often than it failed. There were times when I would garrote an entire group of elves in the past without missing once.

I don't know about weaponbutt, but I'm pretty sure (I could be wrong) that normal blackjack is strength based, meaning the stronger you are (duergar thief anyone?) the longer it lasts. Success is affected by size difference. Trying to jack someone one size category larger than you improves the rate of failure. I'm not sure if being bigger than your foe gives you a bonus or not, though Klaak
