28988, What's your CF New Years Resolution?
Posted by Rayihn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
There's been so much negativity lately, let's post some positive things that we're going to do next year to make the game and community a better, funner place.
For myself, I'm going to try and be more patient and kind during empowerments and interactions. I have to remind myself that just because I've done this schtick 5000 times doesn't mean the players have necessarily.
Also, I'm going to try and get Arial City done by the end of next year.

To stop getting so angry at battleragers...I've always hated them with such a passion that it burns me everytime I think of them. I guess my problem is I'm a serial mage player...perhaps I might even try to hero a non-mage...although that's unlikely. Oh, and to make another badass Invoker.
|
29408, I have an irrational hate for Tribbies.
Posted by TMNS_lazy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I played one and still hate them. And to a lesser extent, Outlanders (since no one has still been able to explain this cabal to me, including people who started it and have imm'd outlanders).

Once you do however, you're hooked. Perhaps not on the first one. (I had some serious problems with my first 2 evils to stick my evil badass roles...) But once you get the hang of it, you'll love it. :D

29384, CF New Year's Resolution --
Posted by Malakhi on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I resolve to finish my area and not fail another heroimm.
After which I will clean up my logs and display a wide swath of bloody, gruesome carnage that only a rager can experience.

Posted by Daurwyn2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I didn't see too much of it as Masigner, but when playing Nererial fortlander was a major issue. There was also battle + fort.
The maran captain admitted to letting them know he was raiding so that they'd come. It was only when I told him I'd rot him repeatedly unless he stopped that it happened less often.

Whine, kick, scream, yell, bribe, beg, ask politely, etc. to get orcs some love.
Run a role contest (already volunteered for January)
Mentor a heroimm.
Do even more marketing (already been doing a bit behind the scenes).

A) Age-death a prominent character.
B) Have a character pass the 100 PK mark.

Posted by Macaca on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
As I'm still totally clueless at hero-levels, I thought that this was a total long-shot, but Thror's comments on Mac's death-thread make me realize that it's totally do-able.
Also, I totally dig what Fjarn's getting at. I think that's awesome.
My 2011 resolution will be to play a caballed character who is not a Villager.
|
29008, Break some habits
Posted by Valkenar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I will play a mage with a real role and ambitions that also PKs starting before level 20.
I will train int and wis to max even though I think it's a poor choice. I'm always worried that this will become a tell of mine.
I will play a mana-using character that is male even though female-only gear and preps are so good for mana users (and always available).
I will play a giant battle berserker and perfect his skills even though practicing makes me want to smash my computer with a hammer then crap on it before throwing it into the sea during a snowstorm.
I will make a quality empoweree for an immortal that I have had poor rapport with on the forums.
I will play an evil character that is actually evil and not just me being friendly to red auras instead of gold auras. Boy do I suck at real-evil.

29006, Will The Arial city have...
Posted by Pro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
An elevator or maybe a dirigible that docks in the various cities like the boats do in Hamsah?
My CF resolution is to make a leader char. I've never tried before.
|
29002, Play a serious char to age/con-death.
Posted by TMNS_lazy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Haven't done that in about two years.
Oh, and try to play more than 250 hours in a year. I think I can do it!
|
29003, RE: Play a serious char to age/con-death.
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think you'll like it. From a role-play point of view, playing an "established" character means you have more relationships, a more fleshed-out role, more "history" to the character. From a game-play perspective you have all your skills mastered, a bunch of edge points, and you've had ample time to get the hang of whatever combo you're playing.
Plus, if you always play characters to age/con death then you'll spend a proportionally lower amount of time ranking.

29001, RE: What's your CF New Years Resolution?
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was going to say, "Quit CF and learn to play the piano," but yeah...that's probably not happening.
So in lieu of that...learn how to better emotionally handle getting killed and/or looted.
Also, figure out how to enjoy the game without "playing for numbers".

Might be some help for this in Arkham, circa levels 10-20.
(Yes, I know we don't talk about things like that here.)

29004, Newbie quests should be the exception to the rule.

29027, This gave me an idea
Posted by camist on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
After you finish the Academy quest, Simon sends you a tell to congratulate you, what if he hinted at where to go to start the cabal location quest?
I think pretty much everyone who starts playing CF finds Simon, but if I recall correctly, I found the cabal location quest with my third or fourth character.
After I finished that, I finally found the confidence to apply to a cabal.
I assume the quest was meant for newbies, so why not help them find it?
EDIT: Just remembered, you have to be at least lvl 11 to start it, that info should probably be included...

28995, My resolution
Posted by Torak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Honestly it's to improve my character roleplay (it's died as of late) and my general pessimistic forum attitude. I need to really not take stuff so personal and not get into "troll fights" with particular Immortals or players (which I think I've improved on...I haven't told Daevryn to go to hell or make shots at him in awhile :) ).
I guess I just need to "up" my game - mostly around being a better sport, not better at the sport. Although another 100 charge AP would be nice but I'm kinda liking playing stuff I never usually do.
Edit: maybe even give area writing a shot as a heroimm, but I'm guessing that Hell would have to freeze over (or burn up depending on the circle) before that would happen.
|
28992, RE: What's your CF New Years Resolution?
Posted by thendrell on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My resolution: I resolve to roll a character who will become the patron saint of the newbies. One who will give them, and only them, as can be perceived by questions, actions and rank, random acts of interaction and encouragement, along with proper but not uber gear. Especially when they go through the tougher times of getting shredded by the vets. Guess it is time to roll up my next uncaballed dwarf paladin and get on this one.
More realistically, I resolve to not multi-kill anyone ever for any reason outside of raids/retrievals. Should be easy, since I can't kill anyone one time with most of my characters to begin with.
|
28991, I have a couple, I guess
Posted by Fjarn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
One of the ways I wanted to contribute when I first became a heroimm was to encourage empowerment characters in unusual (and typically uncovered) spheres - specifically by interacting and providing empowerment when appropriate. With requisite new-guy naivete, I'm going to see if I can be more active in the life of the godless.
Side resolution: Instead of nailing down The Next Big Area (tm), I'll contribute by improving existing areas in minor, but impactful, ways (exit descriptions where there are none, improved descriptions for mobs and objects, etc).
Side resolution number B: Propose some playerbase community involvement projects to siphon our collective talent into the development of the MUD, for those folks who are looking for ways to contribute in a significant way.
