28824, Is Hunter bearcharge weakened?

Does it lag at all?
I can't think of any use for it. Nothing happens.

Nope. More damage, no lag.

...makes it pointless. Can't think of a scenario where you would want to bearcharge for damage when you can either aimed attack with a bow for more damage and -stats or serpent strike with a weapon for damage and effect with less lag.
Why not just remove it for them?

If you don't think it's useful, don't practice it as a hunter.
I pretty much never use kick as a warrior, but I'm not in favor of removing that option, either.

Kick (damage) is useful to some warriors up to a certain, albeit low, level, especially against low HP builds. It's also a prerequisite to brawling, which unless changed, makes it useful in a way since brawling is worth having, or so I'm told. I've never had it.
I guess both of your POVs are valid. Hunter bearcharge is worthless and no, you don't have to practice it, but then again why bother? Why not just remove something that really serves no purpose given it's level or adjust it to provide some other misc. utility? There seem to be a lot of neat nuances to ranger skills based on expertise/terrain. Maybe Hunter bearcharge could have a small change to fire an auto serpent strike or something?
My $0.02.

Because I don't agree with that premise.
It's not the winner skill that bearcharge can be for some ranger builds, but it's not completely useless in all situations for all rangers, either. Thus, I prefer to leave it up to the individual player to decide if they see use in it or not.

Since we're talking specifically about Hunters, can you give us an example of a situation where you would bearcharge (as a hunter) versus using some other skill?
I certain agree bearcharge shouldn't be bash for hunters, and I also certainly agree that bearcharge is viable for rangers who aren't hunters but not bearcharge-specs either. I also understand that is isn't, by design, a hunters strong suit. I'm just wondering what you had in mind for scenarios where its not completely useless for a hunter (over say serpent strike or a bow attack). I've never had a hunter, so I'm curious.

Most obvious example: hunter mountaineer.

Pardon my ignorance. I assumed you meant that regardless of terrain, bearcharge does not lag if you're a hunter. I understand that mountaineers get a bonus to bearcharge, I just figured by "no lag" you meant no lag, period. Does being a mountaineer hunter allow your bearcharge to lag just a little, unlike any other terrain hunter, or are you alluding to something else I'm just oblivious to?

28836, Nope, here's what he's thinking
Posted by Torak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Mountaineers auto-bearcharge in the mountains, meaning it'd be free damage every once in awhile. I'm talking an extremely rare auto-proc effect. You'd never lag with it but it'd be like a very limited terrain specific swiftstrike/felar-swipe/etc.
I'm still partial to removing it though, more so since leaving a skill that 90% of the time you shouldn't take or use makes the game a little more newbie friendly.
But since that takes time, don't remove it. If you're going to put time into fix the suck that is Hunter, fix timed attack.

Woo, I learned something. I remember hearing that bore at some point, too.
It's kind of a so-what, but a benefit nonetheless. Cool beans.

Do hunters get a lagging skill?
|
28839, Some do
Posted by Daurwyn2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
For example, a caverndweller hunter can use spells that lag. e.g. Cavernfall.

28844, no it doesn't

I tested this with a couple hunters. My opponent spammed some speech while I torso shot them. Not the slightest lag even with the knock down echo.
