2859, An idea for the Inns of Thera.

Compared to sleeping on the open road, Inns have always been a place
where people can enjoy a more restful sleep, nifty accomodations, and
the company of others. The Inn of the Eternal Star offers the latter two,
but none of Thera's Inns offer "improved resting." My idea is a
simple one, really:

-Make it so that varying amounts of coin can be paid to the Innkeeper
by individuals and/or group leaders (the person everyone is grouped
around). The amount would increase with the size of the party, of
course, but the price would include:
--An instant refresh, cure critical, and mana refresh.
--A hot meal indigenous to the region/culture.
--A jug of water (which will crumble), and wine for
an extra 10cp per person.

-Each guest gets a key (which will appear on the ground if the inventory
is full.
-No Inns, except for the Eternal Star, can protect people from
summoning, translucent people entering their room, or anything else.
They are normal rooms, though I could see special protective services
offered by each establishment (every merchant wants to pinch some
pennies). Some "Inn guards" could actually put up a decent fight, but
none of them would stick around to get killed.

-The unseen benefit of purchasing a room at an Inn would be a slow-like
effect that would increase regeneration by 20%-30% per tick.

-Purchasing a room allows you to use it freely for 8 hours, at which
time you are booted, all things laying within the room are taken by
the Inn's staff (no stashing, in other words), and the keys are
confiscated. This is a good place for assassins and thieves to do
their things, because they can get into a room during this time and
wait for their prey to come. The only deterrent is that room placement
is random within an Inn, though very small Inn's could have a specific
order to the rooms they allow guests to rent.

Just prog inns to be a fast recovery zone. I am pretty sure there are high mana zones, I think twists old shrine was, it's an easy idea anyways.

I don't think Carrionfields was intended to have 'safe rooms' or places. A while back I asked something somewhere about the fighting room in Udgaard (forgive me for lack of details, it was a while back) and that's pretty much the answer I got.

But then, what would all the healers, and merchants do, all the people others used to go to for these things. With an idea like this, it may become a popular place to want to rest, thus becoming a popular place to want to kill, so over time it would probably become more hassel than it's worth.

The Inn of the Eternal Star has a room that you can buy a key for and rest in. There are also bouncers in that room, and every other room their, to protect their guest from an attack. While higher level players might find the bouncers more annoying than an actual threat, younger players will often thing twice (the more intelligent ones at least) about attacking you while inside. Not to mention the Heralds of the Inn, who's job it is to look after their patrons and see that their stay is as comfortable as possible.

Well what fun would that be. I like to think the reason for having those kinds of spells and skills, is so you can reach people that were previously unreachable.

Well, that doesn't sound very nice. They work every penny they can from you, and don't even risk their life for ya? That doesn't sound very good at all, and yet, the bouncers at the Inn of the Eternal Star will gladly fight tooth and nail for you, without 'pinching pennies'.

If I remember correctly, didn't you just say... ">but none of Thera's Inns offer "improved resting."... I of course take this to mean that you'd like a little protection while you rest, thus the bouncer bit.

>Comments and flames are welcome.

Well, I can't really see the point of implementing a place for 'improved rest' when the bouncers stiff you, and just about anyone can be waiting inside the room you just purchased for a peaceful nights rest. It seems to me that going the exit mile to your guildhall might just be a little safer.

I think it would be cool to make Inns more than just another room. It would also be neat if people hung out in Inns across Thera from time to time.
