27176, No wonder

Well its no wonder this game is dieing. After just a few weeks and getting ganked down in town by tribunals(I'm not wanted by the way) and all the RP I get is "Shut the #### up."

This game has a lot of potential considering how much effort the imps put into it. But it seems the childish playerbase is what's killing it. Have fun with your 10 person playerbase. Sorry imps that this is what you have to deal with.

You might realize some players just want to be that guy that has 350 next to pk wins in their pbf and don't care about RP at all. So they might kill and then hide/ignore/or give STFU responses even when you try to start some interaction with them. But you move on, and talk to other people. Whenever I get tells, does not matter from who or what I happen to be up to, I make an effort to respond, or at the least tell them I am a bit occupied, but can talk later. I've had great interactions with a hero character talking to some level 1, so trust me, there are people out there that will rp and some extremely well.

I'd say don't let one or two bad experiences turn you off so easily, CF has some great aspects, and if you believe the game has potential, maybe stick with it for one more go. People love to PK, but if you can kind of shrug off the PK related assbaggery that is found in any pvp style game, you can have a blast.

I can't be 100% sure you're the person I'm thinking of from today, but you weren't actually in town.

Beyond that, yeah, we've got some douchebags, and some of them are the people that whine the loudest about other people being douchebags. Sorry about that.

Its not the fact that I got PK'ed that bothers me. But its the RP surrounding it. I mean really, I admit I'm not a great rp'er as this is my first real go at mudding, but really how is that RP?

I try to engage those that kill me in some kind of conversation and I either get "shut the #### up" or "You were in an area with a storm giant, and I hate storm giants so I killed you."

The most enjoyable interactions were with people that you probably wouldn't think would pursue interactions. Classes that perceivably would be stand offish or loners. The other 90% of the interactions I've had have been negative so far.

I just don't see how the former is positive or fun in any way. And its just a shame because this really seems like a well done, well put together mud.

Who's knows I may give it another shot, but I probably won't be as enthusiastic about it or put as much effort into it as I would have.

If someone seems to have killed you "just because" then they may be evil, in which case most of the time "just because" is all the justification they need. And they may not appreciate what they perceive as your attempt to ask them for further justification. In fact, they may perceive it as whining, which could cause them to shoot back a curt response.

I've killed neutral characters who I've never spoken to while playing an "obviously" evil character. Say, a duergar. And I've had them get all huffy and ask, "Why did you kill me?!?!"

I'm like...dude...I'm evil...why are you even asking that question?

The conversation in question wasn't even going that direction. I was trying to get some kind of interaction going as to how a thief would uphold "the law". I wish I had logged the conversation but I would say it wasn't whiny in the least and I'm pretty sure I never asked "Why did you kill me?!?!"

And I don't mind getting PK'ed, I already log in expecting to get 1 rounded by someone. I'm just saying that if there is no interaction beyond "Go #### yourself" what's the point of playing a multi person game?

Yeah. Sounds kind of lame on the other guy's part. People are lame sometimes.

That kind of interaction is not the norm in CF. Usually most people in CF do better than that, providing that they aren't busy at the moment. Also, if you don't know whether the other guy will attack you or not, the safest method of interaction is via tells.

Maybe because there might be some interesting RP following?

Sure, going into duo/hide/ignore mode is a viable option, just as giving out snarky comments. My favorite is: "Cause you didnt take the oat", from somone I haven never met before to a char that cant take the oat anyway. Some people also tend to go ballistic if even just a single piece of midnight is missing in their corpse. Its all part of the game.

Nevertheless I had some of the best player interactions after some pk took place and I will continue to try to interact with the other side no matter who is the ghost...
27194, Actually, ANYONE can take the oath...
Posted by Amberion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
... At least anyone could 10 months back. Had a storm giant warrior take the oath (And of course lose all the specs etc, but that's expected.)

I had my chaotic evil thief Kreo take the oath VERY late (after what? 250 hours of gametime?)
27197, I thought it got changed quite a while ago...

So that only evil people can take the oath.

So the proper response to killing a neutral becomes, "Because you could never be a citizen."
27213, Sounds good to me. /nt

Some people are douchey. Get your allies together and kill them. Repeatedly. If that's not feasible, ignore and avoid them.
