27086, Posts like this....
Posted by Abernyte on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I introduced two people at work to CF, IT teachers and they were enjoying it but kept questioning whether it was worthwhile playing because everyone keeps posting about a dwindling player base etc. One of them has now given up because he thinks it wont last and is not worth the investment.
Posts like this don't help anything.

Any kind of discussion is better than silence.
And as for your friends you tried to get into playing, seems like they welcomed the excuse to give it up and not hurt your feelings in the process.

27090, Productive discussion is good. Whining with no greater purpose is worthless. nt

27097, Whining DOES have a greater purpose.
Posted by Splntrd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If enough people whine, sooner or later the staff will figure out they're doing something wrong.
Not that anything will get fixed or changed, but. Step one is admitting there's a problem (as in, serious gameplay problems that are driving away players), which they won't.

27098, Whining's greater purpose.

Is to annoy Messiah-Complex Java.

27113, The problem of declining playerbase..
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
.. is due to lack of marketing. Whining about declining playerbase is negative marketing which drives away players. If you're worried about numbers, talk about getting more people to play CF, don't whine about declining playerbase.
|
27119, No offense, but that's retarded.
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Whining annoys the staff, it doesn't motivate them. That should be clearly obvious by now.
Whining also scares off potential players, as follows common sense and the experience of at least one player in this thread.
You know what works better than whining? Constructive ####ing criticism. Seriously, why do so many of you retards not understand that concept? If you have a problem, don't just restate it ad nausem, suggest SOLUTIONS to FIX the problem.
If you think there are serious gameplay problems, offer serious gameplay solutions. It's that ####ing simple.

27126, Okay, first of all...
Posted by Splntrd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You don't say "no offense" and then spend the entire thread calling someone an ineffective retard, like, just because you said no offense, makes it okay.
Secondly, you clearly haven't been paying attention for the past 3-5 years. Plenty of constructive ####ing criticism regarding the direction the game has moved in has been thrown around by plenty of players, myself included, and the staff refuses to listen. Time and time again they've made it clear that they're only really interested in making the game that THEY want to play, with little to no regard to what WE want to play. Like, what's Zulgh's response to every single Herald suggestion during Santa Zulgh? "Not interested." What's Nep's response when we suggest that it might be okay to proliferate information like walkthroughs? "Thanks, but that's not the way I want you to play my game. I don't get any enjoyment out of that. You might, but I don't care." Or what about when we suggested boosting XP per kill? Or when pretty much the entire playerbase suggested that the ABS system IN ITS ENTIRETY isn't fun, they went ahead and made it LESS fun.
They clearly weren't interested in our constructive criticism when it could have been useful, and that sure as hell isn't going to change now. Or weren't you paying attention?

27127, Herald improvements...really...that's what's killing us?
Posted by Zulghinlour on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I honestly don't see any of your suggestions for Herald as "constructive criticism".

I call ####. Santa Zulg is proof enough that you're wrong.
>Like, what's Zulgh's response to every single Herald >suggestion during Santa Zulgh? "Not interested."
Really...that's your argument that I don't listen? That in itself practically invalidates your entire post. What validates mine...go look at the Santa Zulg forum.
>What's Nep's >response when we suggest that it might be okay to proliferate >information like walkthroughs? "Thanks, but that's not the way >I want you to play my game. I don't get any enjoyment out of >that. You might, but I don't care."
I'm not Nep.
>Or what about when we >suggested boosting XP per kill?
You mean that system that actually exists in the game today? (Do you even play?)
> Or when pretty much the entire >playerbase suggested that the ABS system IN ITS ENTIRETY isn't >fun, they went ahead and made it LESS fun.
Here is the big difference with ABS and why I'm ready to just remove it. People can't have all 3 all the time or it's completely unbalanced, but that is all that the vocal players want. ABS on a stick. That is not going to happen, and people aren't suggesting anything other than that (or something that basically boils down to that such as detect artifact firing on the area your item is in)
>They clearly weren't interested in our constructive criticism >when it could have been useful, and that sure as hell isn't >going to change now. Or weren't you paying attention?
No...that problem is that the Immortals are so far one one side, and the vocal players are so far on the other for certain things like ABS, and it is unrealistic that the players are going to win because their ideas don't mesh with the balance we've created.
Enjoy my "full response" thread locked.

Would be interesting to see "total hours played per month" in a year-over-year comparison.
That is to say, compare the total hours played in September 2009 vs. the total hours played in September 2008, 2007, etc.
