Maybe they should get gauge balance as applicants, like village applicants get truesight. Don't think it would screw with balance (pun!) too much as it's not a skill usable on players or for themselves other than seeing where the balance is for RP reasons.

That's an interesting idea, because without that or asking someone it's hard to do what you should be doing as an applicant to some degree.

What about a squire's version of Eyes for Maran applicants?

There ARE potions/pills/staves/wands/scrolls of detect evil. There's also other ways to deduce someone's alignment.

There isn't a potion of gauge balance or a pill of ask the Nexus inners what the story is.

Also, detect evil is the second most powerful ability Squires get. Giving it to applicants would totally nerf Squires!

Currently, or at least when I had Gnuff, you couldn't gauge the balance when you didn't have the key. In practice, this meant that if you weren't able to retrieve, you could go ranking/do things with anyone, the balance be damned. If Nexus could still gauge balance, they wouldn't be free of their restrictions so easily.

You can ask the inners about the balance regardless of having the cabal item or not.

I failed to get the information from them. I tried asking them but they did not respond, and I never managed to guess the right phrase to do so.

I think its something like "Where does the balance lie?"
