26525, Changing identify to show type
Posted by Nightgaunt_ on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Right now identify works like:

This object, a jade dragon claw can be referred to as 'jade dragon claw'.
It is worth 2356 copper, and is of the 40th level of power.
It is made of dragonbone and weighs 9 pounds 15 ounces.
It seems to be dark and cloaked in shadows.
It is unusable for those of a pure soul.
Those with a balanced soul cannot use it.
It has a chilling aura of evil.
It can cause 4d11 points of damage, at average 24.
When worn, it affects your damage roll by 3 points, your armor class by 20 points and
your strength by 1 points.

It would be really nice if it would show what it actually is so you don't have to do an exam too. For example something like this:

Yeah. I guess this was not something others felt mattered much.
26575, Its not something I have thought about really, but it guess it would be usefull. nt

26577, I endorse your idea. My vote is to implement it.

Thank god I have such a powerful vote, too! ;P

Work for an Imp: 15-30 minutes to change the code for identify.

Work for you: Type in another command.

Still think this will ever happen? I don't.
26580, More like 5 min (n/t)

The staff has made it pretty clear that they would rather spend their time on things which they find more interesting, and have real tangible benefits for the game.

5 minutes spent on changing this trivial matter is 5 minutes they aren't spending making something legitimately cool.

Personally, I examine everything I pick up. If you're not doing that, you're missing a lot. Examine tells me what it needs to tell me. Compare tells me something else. Identify gives detail to what is readily available via examine and compare. Lore fits in the same way.

Thus, I ask you: Am I pessimistic, or realistic?

26592, 5 minutes of imp taking dump is five minutes less imp making something legitimately cool.

Seriously man, five minutes is nothing.
26593, It isn't me you need to convince. nt

26606, You don't need to be convinced.

Just flamed for being facetious.

My god that was the stupidest argument you could possibly have made. Changing a single line in the output of a skill is not a class revamp.

Therefore the above people don't need you talking to them like they're two year old kindergardeners, you're the one in that department.
26628, Normally I ignore you, however:

That argument isn't mine. Its the argument given by the staff time and time again.

If I seem condescending, it's likely because you deserve it for not using your thinking muscle.

Now, I'll go back to ignoring everything you post.
